You're not the only one. They didn't draw me in that much compared to warpaint and the debut. I'm still hopeful there is maybe a good song or two on the record.
As a LONG time TDS fan, this album was definitely a grower and not a show-er. It didn't hit me like RFTS (or even War Paint) did. I made amends with GR, but it still doesn't do much for me. I feared the same thing after listening to this on repeat for the past few months. But with each listen, I got it more and more. I guess what I'm recommending is, don't put this record away after a listen if it doesn't 'click' right off the bat.
The Dangerous Summer have never really been a band that's instantly impressed me. I always have to sit with their stuff a while and let the melodies/lyrics sink in before I really appreciate their songs.
@Craig Manning hit an important point that i also hit in my review, which should be up soon-ish, of the lyrics changing to reflect AJs current life of being an adult rather than stumbling towards being an adult like the last 3 were. theres an underlying theme of longing for the good ol days or reminiscing about old friends throughout the album. for my money This Is Life, Valium, and Infinite are my favorites on the album but there isnt a song i dislike or anything
I know people like it, but man do i wish AJ would go back to actually singing the way he did on the first two albums. The yell/rasp vocals takes me out of it at times. Hoping for less of that on this record.
I think that's my main issue with the track released yesterday. If they try and play that every night of the tour, AJ's voice will be gone by the second date, haha.
No way to know for sure until we hear the album but I think this’ll work quite well as the seventh track. I like it a lot. For me: Ghosts - Valium - Fire
I'm not a huge fan of Valium. Much weaker than Knives imo, which is the closest TDS song to compare it to. Ghosts has grown on me but I still think it's just okay, and I really love Fire.
Valium reminds me more of I'm so pathetic. Golden record vibes all the way though. I Like all 3 songs. Need album now!
Pretty sure I saw it mentioned it'll be available tonight. So hopefully that means it'll make its way online as well. Haven't seen a shipping notification for my preorder yet :S
Yup the venue just told me on Facebook you could buy the album. I said I'd be there by 5 to buy it and he said maybe not till 6, but if the show starts at 6 surely they'll let me buy it at 5.
Loved the first two albums but could barely make it through a minute of Valium. His vocals are awful.
