Any predictions where they could go? I'm sure they're all very thankful for Hopeless. It also sounds like Hopeless didn't agree with some of the creative decisions made during Mother Nature.
well deserved as well. as much as I love Mother Nature it makes me excited for the future for the first time since War Paint
I can’t wait for a proper Mother Nature tour (since the album wasn’t officially out for the first tour and the second one was mostly about RFTS.) With that being said I hope we get to hear some war paint songs live again.
“I’m not at the top and I hope I never get there” is a pretty sweet way to sum it up. Also: Mother Nature is still great.
AJ was on instagram live the other night and he mentioned they wanted to get an album out a year and they're close to signing a new contract with a new label or the same label.
I hope they go with another label, it sounds like Hopeless wasn’t very helpful during the Mother Nature cycle.
Yep based on the chats here it seems like the label cared more about a 10 year RFTS tour than a proper Mother Nature tour. And Mother Nature is probably their best album so that sucks.
I only got into these guys with Mother Nature, but have gone back and now love RFTS and really like War Paint. Finally got around to Golden Record. I've listened through a few times and it seems okay but I certainly haven't formed a strong opinion on it yet. But from what I can tell it was kind of poorly received and derailed the band's momentum. Is that fair to say? And what do you think of it now?
Golden Record has two of my favorite TDS songs (Catholic Girls and Miles Apart) but the rest of the record is very forgettable to me.
Yeah this is pretty accurate. Also I think right around Golden Record or shortly after it’s release it became super known a former member of the band was an absolute terrible person: Cody Payne. Caused lots of tension, halted momentum, and the band eventually went on hiatus.
Don’t listen to any of GR really, love RFTS, War Paint and Mother Nature so seems accurate to me too haha
Golden Record has some amazing songs, but about half of it is mediocre and it has some of the worst sequencing of any album I've ever heard. And yeah, the Cody situation was a sticking point. Definitely lost a lot of the magic of the first two albums.
The only songs I really come back to on Golden Record is the stretch that is Sins, Drowning and Knives. It's a very inconsistent record.
It’s obviously all personal preference, but it’s one of the only albums by a band I follow that I skip and listen to ALL of the other songs on every other record haha. Honestly a compliment. Hard as fuck to write 3 perfect records, and the ones that aren’t GR are perfect, to me.
I think "Catholic Girls" and "Miles Apart" are perfect songs. I really like "Honesty" and "We Will Wait in the Fog" and "Sins" and "Anchor." I have tried really hard to care about the rest but I just don't.
Well, you at least named all of my would be “favourites” haha. I think I just like the production better on the other records too.
