Add in Sky Opened Up (still closing with Starting Over) and that is my dream come true. Perfect set list if you're only doing those two albums.
I’d play It is Real every god damn show if it was mine I’ve showed people that song who aren’t into that “genre” and they love it
I like Is It Real but it kind of signals the point where the album is no longer completely perfect to me.
All in good fun! I wouldn't say there is a weak track on the album but Is It Real is a bit of a jarring change of pace imo. Then Violent Red strikes me as a "we better pick the tempo back up" but just isn't as good as anything from side A. Title track and Better Light are fantastic. Then the closer falls flat for me. Just feels like it should explode and it doesn't. Allll that said still a fantastic album, 9/10, their second best after RFTS, probably my AOTY
It is real > where were you when the sky opened up imo Y’all are gonna eventually get tired of me saying this but that “oh but I did” melody is the catchiest melody of the year. So good.
I largely agree with these takes yeah. I would argue that while the closer isn't one of the stronger songs on the album, it's very well placed as a callback to their RFTS sound especially in the guitarwork, and that feels like a deliberate way to bring the album fill circle. But yeah title track into "Better Light" is unbelievable
It Is Real and Violent Red are the weakest tracks on the album. But they’re still great songs title track-Better Light-Consequence of Living is an unbelievably good closing run
violent red is great. I wish most of these songs were a little bit shorter tho, feels like the end drags on a lot of them - like violent red is 30 seconds of one droning note
Violent Red doesn't do anything for me for some reason. I tried to like it. One of the only tracks I don't really replay.
I don't dislike it, the first half of the record just sets such a high bar and Violent Red can't clear it. The opening feels particularly clunky. The hook is pretty catchy. Tied for my least fav track with the closer.
Violent Red and Consequence of Living are the only songs I leave out now when I listen to this album. The first half of this is too perfect.
I really hope I can ask them for consequence of living.. Or miscommunication in sound check. I've asked aj for years to play it. When war paint came out he said it was too personal. Last time I saw him he said they played it a few times the last four. But all in all I'm really stoked to see them in the same venue I first saw them at in 2011. Really hope I snag the setlist cause I have gotten one from every time I've seen them.
If the RFTS tour is coming to your town go see that shit. Was so much fun. They have screen printed posters and they look incredible
Tough choice, but Tyler for me. Ben is great and Tyler has a really small sample size but his drumming on RFTS is truly special
I... can agree with that... when you look at songs like Where I Want to Be, Weathered, A Space To Grow, Never Feel Alone (just some brilliant grooves and accents throughout)... it’s great stuff. But man, Cato’s sound is so powerful. Idk if it’s just the production or what... Both play with a lot of precision, but where Minsberg had maybe a more “linear” style, Cato’s is harder hitting. Nevertheless, both fill the space in a really impactful way... just different. Can’t knock either one of them though. I was listening to pretty much the whole TDS catalog last night driving back to my place, drumming along on my steering wheel of course lol, so I had to ask.
Tyler killed it on Reach for the Sun, but i've always been a fan of Ben's snare work. It always seems like he's using it at the exact right times.
I think they played songs a little faster tonight, but man I love the enthusiasm ben has. Had AJ personalize my poster alittle more than just signing it. cant get the picture to post, but I had him write "have you surfaced yet?" On it.
