Ugh. I just feel like when I was in high school there would be all these bands I felt were “my band” and I’d wanna run around the halls shouting to everyone “go listen to this band they’re better than whatever the fuck you’re listening to.” I kind of grew out of that, except for the fact every time I listen to Mother Nature I wanna tweet about how great this album (and band) is.
Not really sure. Seems like that was maybe something that was brought to the table by a previous member in the past or something because AJ was very unconcerned with harmonies. We were gonna try and have their Europe touring guitarist try some remotely but never really felt the need to pursue it. He and I didn’t have any ideas in our heads to throw down. We were open to them. Just didn’t feel the need for them.
Yea this keeps getting better with each listen. I’ve been coming back to war paint a lot too. Hadn’t heard any of their discog until the hype for this record started to build but WP is probably coming in at second for me right now, behind this. What’s the general fan consensus on each record?
Their first full length record, reach for the sun, is regarded as a masterpiece and a favorite among fans. War paint is also heavily favored and in my opinion, just as good as their first release. Next came golden record, this album sounded different cuz it was the first with 2 of their current members. Its not generally favored and i havent gone back to it since its release. I like to pretend that one never happened. After that came their self titled which was a step in a more desired direction, some solid songs on that one. And now we arrive at mother nature, which its still to early to tell where it difinitvely falls on my favorites list, but i absolutely love it so far and its a step in the best possible direction.
Thanks! I actually haven’t gone back to RFTS too much aside from never feel alone. S/T started out as my fav until I listened to war paint more.
Submitted my first Post in the vinyl subreddit of a pic of my MN vinyl, and someone immediately downvoted it!
A.J did some cool podcasts the past 2 years. On iTunes or whatever app you use, look up Lead singers syndrome episode with A.J. this is from last year and he discusses what he did the 5 years off. Why he returned. His opinion on the ex member and that theft. And returning to the age of streaming etc Also look up the show Gone Fiskin. That one is from a couple months ago and A.J describes recording Mother Nature. His seperation. And moving to Virginia. Def recommend both of em
Lead Singer Syndrome with Shane? listened to that for a while and i enjoyed it but Im not a big sports fan so I couldn’t get into all of it
Oops yes Lead singer syndrome. Fixed my typo. Here is the episode Episode 96 - AJ Perdomo (The Dangerous Summer)
"Virginia" has that kind of vibe/sound that I feel like we don't hear a lot in modern pop/rock pop/punk whatever you want to call it. The kind of melodies and hooks that used to be really prevalent in the best of the genre, but are lost a bit these days.
Does anyone know how the album has been doing? I'm really hoping that this album widens and grows the fanbase!
The last three songs on this album are ones I keep finding myself coming back to. Love this entire album
I just listened to that Lead Singer Syndrome episode. AJ seems like such a down to earth dude. I like how the interviewer was trying to get him to dish out on the shady things that former member did, and AJ was just like nah I've moved on I'm not gonna relive that negativity. Although I'm curious as to what the hell they were talking about lol. I didn't get into the band until after the breakup, so I have no idea what kind of drama went on with them.
