Much prefer to say it’s their Direction, or Southern Air. Feels way more fitting with how the expanded and actualized their sound.
this is their trouble will find me this is their crack the skye this is their all we love we leave behind this is their purple this is their nearer my god this is their folie a deux this is their *album i like* (i find statements like these to be ridiculous, this is their mother nature and thats all there is to it)
Yeah I think Direction is a nice fit. The departure isn't as significant as Brand New's, considering some of these songs would fit on their previous records. Obviously we're talking about years from now, but I won't be shocked if we get an album full of songs like "Better Light"
I’d be pretty shocked. That song feels right as a way to piece the album together and make it cohesive and expansive. Only songs like that wouldn’t have the same impact. (It’s a very 1975-esque trick.)
I posted a video interview in here yesterday and AJ talked about how they wanted to do something like 1975 did on their new stuff. Something like that haha.
I’ve been absolutely hooked on “Way Down” the past couple weeks... and now that I’ve heard the whole album I think I might agree with @Jason Tate that it’s the weakest track on here, because the whole album is SO strong. Fuck.
Jk due to technical difficulties I didn’t get to listen to the whole thing but what I did hear was a hugely impressive shift in sound/songwriting Home now and about to give it a proper listen not through the Files app lol
on second listen it is real might be my early favorite. that chorus is gonna be fun to sing in the car this summer. fuck this is all really good.
I was literally listening earlier and thinking "this sounds like they brought Waves into the present day"
So my girlfriend of 1 day just bought me this album for my bday because I was talking about you guys hyping this up You all make real life impacts don’t forget it
RFTS and War Paint are top 3 and top 15 albums of all time for me, respectively. I'm not gonna say SO/SD is their best song.... but I'm not NOT saying it either
Jesus, I was always going to listen to this album and have always been a huge fan, but I did not expect this. It always felt like they lost the magic they captured with the first two albums- but I am ecstatic to eat crow on that sentiment. TDS has always been a summer band for me, so the timing couldn't be much better for me.
The dreams I had when going through opiate withdrawal were always fucking insane. Years later I still have a random dream every few months about using. Best of luck.
