This album is really good. I agree that the band really comes into its own after the self-titled record. I like the singles, but I love Virginia, Starting Over / Slow Down, It Is Real, and Better Light upon my first two listens. Really excited to hear what everyone else thinks!
RFTS - Spring War Paint - Summer Golden Record - Fall Self Titled - Winter ^^^^^That’s how I like my TDS. I think this new album will be another summer/fall album for me.
I got tickets to the tour, I got the album digitally pre-ordered, I got 70 degrees and sunny day off today..... ......NEED THIS. Also, I really like Anchor as a closer even if not as epic as some of the others.
Never Feel Alone is easily their best closer to me, but they don’t have a bad one. I feel like Anchor could benefit from being a little bigger, but I’ve always found it to be an effective closer especially with that upper octave chorus at the end.
Also, all their albums are pretty much spring/summer for me, haha. Golden Record also works well in the fall though.
for those curious, Way Down is the "heaviest" song on the album. there's no Knives or Valium or Work In Progress this time
I’m fine with this tbh. Way Down is great and Work In Progress is actually my favorite TDS song, but they don’t always nail the “heavier” sound.
But is it catchy? I personally feel a lot of the new stuff has meandered for lack of a better word. Parachute, Need you More, and the faster driving songs are always my favorite from them.
being from florida i always loved the line in everyone left “somewhere north of florida but just south of tennessee” except ignored the south of tennessee part lol
I'm going to be playing this all summer long. I really didn't think a guitar driven rock album would connect with me in this way again ... I expected a summer of Sigrid and Carly Rae (which will also get a fuck ton of play) like music. And yet, damn, this is just so good.
Hard to say. The singles definitely have the most immediate hooks, I was wondering why they didn't play any other new songs last night but after hearing the album I totally get it, there's a lot going on in these songs and they would probably be lost on a crowd hearing them for the first time ever. Each listen is getting more rewarding though, hopefully I don't wear out the vinyl too quick heh. When all's said and done I think the singles will end up in the middle
Virginia is the most upbeat song they've made in a hot minute. Violent Red will probably be up your alley as well
Liner Notes (May 24th, 2019) • chorus.fm As for the songs themselves, I think “Starting Over / Slow Down” is one of the best songs the band’s ever written. When it shifts, about halfway through, to this electronic and synth beat, I can’t help but feel a massive smile creep over my face.
This sound progression feels so natural for this band. This is everything I love about TDS mixed with so much ambitious shit I hope 20 other bands listen to this and go “oh shit okay...it’s time to try something different”
