catholic girls, sins, and knives are easily all top 10 TDS songs. i mean fuck sins is the most devestating writing he's ever done. "I turned my back on the rope tied to my ceiling/There's a reason I won't go there anymore"
for all of golden records flaws it wasnt completely forgettable and bland like self titled was. like i said i like fire and maybe one or two other songs but the production is so flat (literally) and the songwriting is a massive regression from every other album.
war paint (a top 20 album of all time for me, possibly 10) >>>> reach for the sun >>> golden record >>>>>> self titled
Production on self-titled is very boring. That record tends to lose me in the middle, in part because the sound of it is just so blah.
self titled is a typical come back record where the band is trying to still find their footing with a new line up after time away. makes sense that the follow up would knock it out of the park
Exactly how I feel. First one was "let's see what we can do" (Yellowcard's WYTTSY) and the next is "let's stretch and expand and maybe fuck around and make one of our best albums" (YC's Southern Air).
also im sure someone has made this comparison ITT but i dont feel like checking, where were you when the sky opened up has an extremely similar guitar par to move along, its awesome
Reach for the Sun > War Paint > Self Titled > Golden Record I really enjoyed the self titled. For being their first album in a few years after Cody got the hell out I think it served its purpose well. It scratched a missing TDS itch after a few years and not knowing if we would ever get a new album. However, it’ll probably be much easier to move on from that album after I hear this new one. EDIT: ahhh yep, you guys just nailed the point of my post lol
I really like, what I'm assuming is, Matt Kennedy's influence on quite a few songs. Some big The Graduate vibes in the keyboard/synth and guitars parts.
ive been waiting for him to really take the reins and do his thing instead of staying in the lane of what a dangerous summer song should sound like on guitar
Everyone Left is one of my favorite songs in their discography. Even have some words from it on my body! Very glad to see people excited for this band again. Even happier to hear them changing up their sound.
Def one of my top 3-5 bands ever from this scene or otherwise. I wouldn’t like TDS if the atmosphere in their early work didn’t remind me of the graduate. Sad most of that went away.
