Hit me up if anyone wants to DJ my wedding in the autumn of 2021 in upstate ny. Will pay expenses and give you all the booze and hot pants you could want.
We lucked out, since we got married in November the venue had a great off-season package where the DJ and photography company they have an ongoing deal with was built into our per-guest cost at a discount. We wound up getting a really great company for a really great price, way less expensive than they would have been otherwise.
My wife and I got married in rural South Australia. Were recommended the DJ who performed in one of the local hotels every Friday night (they would section off the bar area from the dining and it became a "night club"). That meant this DJ had all his gear at the venue already, and it was right near where we were having our reception -- as such to bring in another DJ would be more expensive and require us to move all the other guy's equipment, then bring in the other equipment including speakers. All got too hard so we went with the local guy. After all, he was experienced and gave us confidence he would hit our cues (Beatles for the cake cutting etc). Then he asked what kind of music we wanted in the background while everyone was eating. We told him something pretty and quiet like Bon Iver and the xx. He said he had never heard of them but he would sort it out. He played Wonderwall.
I asked R2K to DJ my wedding, he was down with it (go back to pre WIITB days, we're from the same town, brother went to school with him) but it just never worked out. A band/artist would be a dream to have at a wedding vow renewal.
Thanks y’all! I know that the bug jar and anthology are the places for the shows (whenever they reopen) and my partner is a huge coffee snob and went to school here so we’ve been to a couple places. Mostly I’m looking for the best resource to find other musicians who want to jam / start a band! Obviously when it’s safe.
Water Street was THE scene venue growing up. It got turned into a Funk n Waffles for a bit before shutting down but it seems the plans were to reopen again as Water Street. That said, anthology is a really cool, relatively new, venue; hope you get to see it soon. in the same vein we did have a really nice local scene, especially hardcore, so I’d imagine there are some people looking for the same thing. May be worth checking out some town Facebook groups or craigslist (incidentally I saw a metal band looking for someone the other day).
Hopefully they don't cut anything, the setlist was: Reach for the Sun (Whole Album) Prologue Blind Ambition Bring Me Back to Life Waydown Virginia Starting Over / Slow Down Where Were You When the Sky Opened Up
That was a different tour. This is from their stop on the Mother Nature tour. I can't remember the exact set list, but I think the album breakdown was like this: RFTS - WYWTB, Permanent Rain, Northern Lights, Never Feel Alone WP - No one's Gonna Need You More GR - Catholic Girls ST - Color, Infinite, Ghosts, This is Life MN - Way Down, Starting Over/Slow Down, WWYWTSOU, Bring Me Back to Life
I stand corrected! I did think it was a little weird they'd go with a full album show for a live record, though I wish they played more War Paint songs that tour.
