For those who have heard the full album, is Bring Me Back to Life the “really different/unexpected” song I’ve heard about from this album? The way I heard it described was that it’s very different for them, so I’m curious if there’s something more unexpected left to come. @Drew Beringer
Oh, this is great. The transition into Way Down is also quite sweet. These work well together. I am 3/3, but I don’t love WWYWTSOU. So the hype for this album has increased exponentially with each single.
They are easily one of my favorite bands so hate I doubt - I’m banking on disappointedly neutral. I did enjoy the return more than most, though, so jury’s still out.
Given the first three singles...it’s hard to imagine that but I’m hoping that’s the case (and honestly I don’t need it to be because I actually enjoyed self titled - just not enamored with it like WP). The way I feel about these three tracks is on par with the way I feel about the bottom half of tracks on the last LP. You can change them out and it wouldn’t improve/detract from my assessment of S/T.
Yep. By a massive margin. (And if you don’t like the three singles you will hate the album, you’re right about that.)
I like to see the self titled as them going “ok, how do we be a band again?” and the three singles as them going “ok, how do we be a better band than before?” I’ll let y’all know on Sunday night how the album is hehe
But I don’t hate the new songs...I just “golden record” them lol They serve their purpose, with mild to moderate chagrin, sure to be lifted by more significant cuts on the upcoming LP (presumably the title track, the track you alluded to, and the closer). I sincerely doubt I hate anything this band ever does as long as he’s writing/(trying) to sing
Given the lyrical/thematic content, vocal delivery (though clearly more strained now), and tempo of the vast majority of their songs fall into/tend to follow, this margin you speak of being so disparate seems, at least from this listener’s ears, highly unlikely. Do the heights of this new album lift them higher than RFTS Or WP or simply just above the last two outings? If it’s the latter, it’s seemingly irrelevant, albeit mildly exciting, to me.
Damn. I like the last album quite a bit and I really like these three songs. Sounds like I’m in for a treat.
