You know, when self titled came out I thought that was a decent album but clearly the low point/a lull in their discography, and then rebounding with Mother Nature seemed to reinforce that. But tbh these last couple releases make me desperately wish they were still putting out even self titled level stuff
I only got into TDS on Mother Nature - I really love that record. I don’t have the same relationship a lot of you seem to have with this band but I dig this new one a lot. Coming home felt unfinished in areas. Gravity feels very complete to me. It doesn’t quite reach the same highs as Mother Nature but I’d say it’s as consistently enjoyable. Stoked to see them play live next month.
On Turning Love into War I'm getting some later period Brand New vibes... Which reminds me, the final album Science Fiction from Brand New I was really dissapointed with at first. But grew to absolutely love it... I'm sensing Gravity is a grower not a shower here too a bit. Especially the second half
Same but I’d swap dream for the opener but whoever said the opener just kind of fails the land was kind of right
The album should’ve ended on dream. The closer is the first dangerous summer song I will probably be deleting from my library
Dream is so good. I was literally about to say the same thing. But then.. I’m listening to the closer right now for like the fifth time and it’s really grown on me. The whole second half has grown on me.
that was the one on first listen that made me do an ugly face. couldn’t really believe what I was hearing
The songs are better than the last album I think though it all blended together on first listen. Will have to return to it but my general impression is the first 5 albums are still gonna rank higher.
This won't be the ranking anyone wanted. Or anyone asked for. RFTS MN Warpaint Gravity Golden Record ST 2008 EP 2020 EP Coming Home

Glad to see some IYCOKMA love. Great debut EP. RFTS and War Paint are special albums with INCREDIBLE drums. Golden Record has a lot of cool moments but doesn’t fully come together, and often rough to listen to due to the vocals. Honestly the only thing released since then that has caught my attention is Mother Nature, which is a good album but not quite at the level of the early run. Pretty unfortunate to see how their career has progressed but I guess that’s what happens when you don’t really take creative risks in your songwriting.

Ending my first play and it's wild they sat on Dream. I would've been much more hyped for the album had it been released as a single. Thought the rest of the non album tracks blended together in the same way Coming Home did. I don't know what exactly, but something hasn't been hitting post-Mother Nature on the instrumental front and I find myself agreeing with the post that mentioned Cody. Despite his shenanigans, his limited yet distinct guitar work helped define their sound early on and I can't help but miss it at times.
On my to do list for tomorrow! I’m not saying it’s a good thing! But some bands take 4 years to make one album. Maybe TDS would have been better served doing that. You don’t like Mother Nature?! “I Would Stay” alone is better than anything they’ve done in years.
