On first listen, this is the most I’ve liked a TDS record since Golden Record (MN did nothing for me), and I think it’s definitely going to end up being better than GR
Without hearing this album yet, I’m excited by this despite having the complete opposite opinion on both Mother Nature and Golden Record as you lol
Gave it another spin. Absolutely not for me. Bowing out of this thread so people can enjoy tomorrow taking about the album.
This is not a mid tempo record! Outside of just a few moments/the last song. Lots of Tom DeLonge vibes hahh, if you know what I mean. Cool bass tones too (though the bass is mostly very simple). Some Golden Record vocals delivery here or there (cool opening track), can't wait to blast it out on speakers tomorrow, but I'm also not fully sold just yet
I thought all 3 singles were top tier and the long clip they posted today of Where Did the Time Go sounds really good too. So the other 8 songs will have to be real trash for me to dislike this album lol
his voice is not strong enough to carry a single one of these songs on the back half. with my pen, wild one, and cloud in my eyes were all painful to listen to
so far the singles and the first track are the only songs I’ve liked. I have two songs left. His voice just sounds worse than ever not even in that raspy shouty way it sounded on golden record that I mostly came around to it just sounds…weak Edit: the last track is abysmal
I just did a quick preview but the instrumentals sound really weak and sames-y and while his singing seems alright it really does lack any kind of punch and because of the muted instrumentals it almost sounds like he singing on an island by himself and he does not have vocals that are good enough to carry. His strength is not ballads but he keeps doing them. Just listen to a song off Reach for the Sun and it's almost mind blowing how flat his vocals are comparatively. Had something unique but it just ain't there it seems.
This album is ok. I don’t see myself coming back to it. It’s better than the new TSSF. Highly recommend listening to this over that album.
Yeah echoing others comments. Other than I Feel More Like Myself and Dream, none of the other non singles songs did much for me. In saying that I Feel More and Dream are absolute bops and TDS at their best imo
I think I like this better than most of you, but it takes some really jarring turns that remind me unfavorably of Golden Record ("Where Did All the Time Go" into "With My Pen" is some bad, whiplash-inducing sequencing) and I think the singles are all among the 4-5 best songs on the album. Overall, will need more time with it, but I'm definitely disappointed after "What's an Hour Really Worth" and "Pacific Ocean" got my hopes up.
I actually really enjoyed my first listen with this. A much better experience than the last album for me. Production sounds great and AJ’s influences definitely come through. This is going to be a wonderful summer night album. Outside of the singles I really enjoyed I Feel More Like Myself, You’ll See It Coming, Turning Love Into War, Where Did The Time Go, and Dream. I’m happy with this.
What I'll say is the same criticism I have for a lot of recent rock albums, which is that it sounds pretty thin/flat/cheap. I miss the days when major labels were throwing a shit ton of money at rock bands.
Would this apply to the Song Gravity too? I haven't listened to the whole album yet, but when that chorus hits through my huge stereo and good speakers it sounds quite full and bombastic. Opposite of thin to my ears. And more Bass than ever for them
Listening to half of it so far and I like it. Feels significantly much better than the last album so far I was pretty much out on this band just a few short months ago so to have this and not HATE it immediately is a good development
Listening now. Currently on Turning Love Into War, and this song is a snooze. I Feel More Like Myself rocked my socks though.
