They tried something new today by having Trevor talk to/interact with the in studio audience. I really dig it.
They've been treading the water with it on Facebook for a few months now. He's gotten a lot of really great bits out of it. Very sincere opinions on hot button stuff.
I went to taping of TDS last year when they did a week in Chicago. They did an off-camera audience Q&A for 10 minutes with Trevor and it was awesome. Glad to see it’s making it into the show now.
Glad to see that everyone seems to agree with me, that Trevor is really starting to hit his stride. Very happy for him!
Only having TNS during the campaign runs of 2016 was a sucha tease. That show would be on fire with this administration.
Oh wow. I thought he was gonna hold onto that gig for as long as possible. TBH I don't watch much because I don't find his delivery very funny in this format. I'm hoping they keep it going with someone that can nail the delivery and punchlines. Out of the current correspondents I don't really know if any of them feels like a host to me.
This will be a good opportunity to rethink how to do this show to make it feel a little more fresh. Trevor is good, but the format didn't really change under him. TDS hasn't really stood out since 2015/2016 when it felt like almost every late night show pivoted to become like the Daily Show. Also i hope in the next iteration of this Paramount pushes this hard on streaming. I know TDS is already on P+ but it's usually buried. Feels like a big draw they haven't taken advantage of in streaming. Same goes with their other late night shows tbh.
I think he did a great job. As a non-American who has always closely observed the US I always appreciated his not-quite-American perspective. However, I think that perspective sometimes annoyed Americans. Which again made it even funnier. He definitely turned it into a more global show. I hope it will stay that way, but I doubt it.
Yeah he's the clear choice. I know a lot of people are pushing for Samantha Bee, but i really just can't see Paramount picking her after her other show got canned because they struggled to keep their audience post-trump. She lost over a million viewers in the span of 3 years.
Wood is hilarious I just for some reason have a hard time imaging him as host. You need the right delivery to do TDS
I assume he's moved on with his life but omg yes I would actually love Wilmore to take over TDS. The Nightly Show was decent, and I think he'd kill it in the more traditional TDS format.
