This is absolutely true. All you gotta know is everybody’s an asshole and they just get worse and worse. Smash cut to finale.
I feel like the final moments of episode 9 are important going into the finale. At least if you want more weight to the symbolism of what happens
Binged this over the last couple weeks. Show is good and unlike anything I've seen, but I didn't really enjoy watching it. Nothing could've prepared me for the finale though, which was impressive and almost feels like something to be judged separately. Lot of mixed feelings about the show overall.
I enjoyed this video and part three in particular does a great job explaining why I think trimming it down to half an hour would fundamentally change what the show is. A lot of the more meandering or dragged out moments are the most interesting and unique parts of the show.
This is going to wind up pretty high on my all-time list for one-off shows. Just brutally uncomfortable, ridiculous, and brilliantly acted. When I'd heard all the talk about the finale being batshit crazy, I thought I'd prepared myself pretty well. Nope. Even crazier. I was in the middle of the show when I saw Poor Things. The stark contrast with Emma Stone was...insane. One of the best around, without question.
I feel like she's the best American actress in her age group. She consistently chooses the best projects and has incredible range.
I think I'm pretty much there with her, too. Anything she does is pretty much must see and I'm never let down by her.
8, 9, and 10 were much much better. I’m glad I finished it. I still think the first 7 episodes could have been trimmed down. I liked the character of Dougie but we spend a lot of time with him and it doesn’t go anywhere.
He’s a good character I just don’t think him digging around the woods for keys for 10 minutes was necessary.
This is my one beef with the finale and show as a whole. (I definitely liked the early half of the ride more than you.) The finale was an absolutely fantastic hour of tv and in some ways an absolutely fantastic payoff to the Whitney and Asher story, but I know if I think too hard about random things from episodes 1-9 I'll remember that in hindsight they kind of added up to nothing.
I can understand that criticism but also disagree with it. Everything mentioned only makes me want to revisit the series from the start again. I feel like there's a LOT to be gleaned from episodes 1-8, especially if you're not just waiting for a "payoff" / know the full story. I'm sure there's plenty I missed in my first watch.
Knowing the Dougie story doesn't end with a horrific DUI wreck or anything too traumatic it makes me want more but that would take away so much of what draws me to him.
Yeah to me it's about the moments themselves and what they say about the characters rather than them having to go anywhere plotwise. Those sections that any other show would have cut are what give the show so much depth and are honestly one of the main reasons the show exists in the first place.
I wish I didn't cancel my Paramount+ subscription so I could give this a re-watch. But also, it was the shittest streaming service.
Finally got around to watching this video. Great analysis, especially when it highlighted what Asher said at the end of ep 9. Something along the lines of "If you didn't want me around anymore, I'll be gone. You don't even have to say it, I'll just know it and I'll disappear."
I finally battled through this. I loved it but also hated it. I have a very low tolerance for cringe and this was rouugghhh. I'm glad I got through it though, loved the finale.
