Was away from home all weekend so I've only had chance to listen a couple of times. I'm typically tolerant of loud mixes but I find the mix on this baffling. Their best albums have great separation and definition on each instrument. This is a hulking slab of loud mid and low frequencies and high distortion, and at times it's actively unpleasant to listen to. Maybe I need to go back to 4:13 Dream but I don't remember any of their records sounding so loud, mono, and clogged up. I think it's buried some of these songs.
Yeah finally got around to listening to the album today and…wow. Absolutely incredible and such a great fall vibe
This has not been my experience on any of the many places/devices/speakers I listened to this on over the last few days. (Lossless/Apple Digital Master; non-Atmos)
I had a very busy weekend so I’m just diving into this now (today of all days…). Fuck, this is as great as expected.
Sounds really good! Definitely give it a good clean before playing, I had lots of static and dust on mine when I opened it.
They just sent an email out and in it, Robert gave his favorite song off each album with some comments besides the new one... Three Imaginary Boys- Title Track "The title track of the first album would be a song I'd be happy with now. It still kind of resonates with me..." Seventeen Seconds- At Night "We play it a lot live. I think it has the same kind of mood as this album(new album) It would fit quite happily" Faith- Title Track "It's always been the song that I can remember thinking 'ah, I can write songs'. It was actually the first song I was really proud of" Pornography- Cold "We've been playing that a lot live in the last few years" The Top- Title Track "That's a weird song. That's a strange sort of mood." The Head On The Door- Sinking "A bit of doom & gloom" Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me- If Only Tonight We Could Sleep "That's another song we played quite a bit over the last few years. And there's a lovely kind of mood to it when it's played well." Disintegration- Untitled "It's always been one of my favorites." Wish- To Wish Impossible Things "This has always been on of my favorites too." Wild Mood Swings- Treasure "Treasure would be a great thing, to be honest, because it's about Loss. It was inspired by a Christina Rossetti poem" Bloody Flowers- The Last Day Of Summer "We have played this one quite a lot over the last few years, and it has become a great live song" The Cure- Before Three "It's often my least favorite Cure album, it doesn't quite hang together... but I like 'Before Three', I think it's a really great song" 4:13 Dream- The Hungry Ghost "It's about how people are consumed by wanting more and more and more, including me"
Glow in the dark picture disc. The sleeve is heat reactive which unveils the album cover when fully done.
do you ever think about this EP and think about how wild the track list is Hypnagogic States - Wikipedia
Man, I've finally had the time to really immerse myself in this over the last few days and I actually cannot believe how good it is, I can't remember the last time I've heard what could very well be considered one of their defining albums this far into a band's career. Maybe Bowie's last album? The music is BEAUTIFUL and this is also some of Robert's best writing ever, the themes of fear of aging and losing people hit even harder with him now at age 65 What a fucking artist. I really really need to see them live before they hang it up
After giving myself some time with this album and also doing a discog run, I think this is my ranking Disintegration Wish Pornography The Head on the Door Songs of a Lost World (could see it surpassing HOTD) Faith Seventeen Seconds Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (Just Like Heaven might be my favorite song of all time but parts of this album drag for me) Bloodflowers 4:13 Dream (very underrated) The Top Three Imaginary Boys Wild Mood Swings The Cure
Honestly my biggest qualm is with WMS being that low. I feel like that album is underrated. Also agreed on KMKMKM, some really tough to get through songs on that record
Yep! I've always thought this. Super slept on album, even at the time of release. Def one of their top albums imo but it's been a long time since I've done a discography run of these guys.
I saw this article about ranking The Cure's discography and the new album is in there so thoughts on the ranking? https://www.spin.com/2024/11/every-cure-album-ranked/
