Got my vinyl shipment notification! Stoked! Can’t wait to dive in. Also, cool story…my coworker used to be in the music business. He was the sound guy for U2 during Joshua Tree era. But before any of that, he worked with The Cure from Seventeen Seconds through Pornography. He’s got so many funny/interesting stories about the recordings of those albums. “I walked into the room and they all looked at me like…‘who’s this fucking kid they stuck us with’ and nobody said anything except for Robert. All he said was “Hello, have a seat” and then we just sat in silence listening to the same synthesizer part for 10 minutes before someone said something”. “You wouldn’t believe how long the sound of wind blowing would be on a loop for. It had to be the right amount of wind before it was okay to move on with the song”.
loving the new mix. all their remasters have generally been great and this is no exception, it's a little louder but not brickwalled to hell and back, really wide and spacious mix that just lets you luxuriate in all those guitar layers. "A Letter To Elise" in particular is even more amazing than it already was. haven't even dived into the demos and stuff yet but this is a knockout for me
The new mix is great! I’m hearing so many nuances in the guitars that I have never heard before. It almost feels like a different take or perspective on the album rather than just making it louder.
this is apparently how Robert wanted the album to sound originally but he was on tour or something during the original mastering. no surprise it sounds so good!
Gorgeous gig at Wembley Arena last night. Was blown away by how good Robert sounded – the guy's 63 and he sounded so powerful and clean. Could tell he was having a lot of fun too. New songs sounded really good.
I saw them on Sunday and couldn't agree more. One of the best live bands I've ever seen. Bob, give us the new album. We beg you.
The Cure announce North American tour, including 3 nights at Hollywood Bowl and Madison Square Garden Glad I didn’t pull the trigger on boygenius tickets for the same date.
Big bummer to not see this come to my state but registered for Seattle. Just a cool 7 hour round trip on a Thursday lol
Hoping a Friday show gets added in Chicago cus I'm seeing Paramore in Columbus when they're here. If not, looks like I'm seeing the Cure in Cleveland
Never really got into the Cure...only really know the singles...where does one start? Is there sound close to Friday, Im In Love? or more varied....never really got hooked on that tune itself but curious what the rest of the discography holds
I'd suggest going here and check out the ranking. There's definitely pop Cure and experimental dark Cure within each album, more or less. Every album is a ride, for sure. https://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?b=1170#appearances
Friday In Love is really the outsider when it comes to this band. Not a ton of their stuff sounds like that. Disintegration is probably their most highly regarded album, but I personally recommend starting with Seventeen Seconds, Faith, and Pornography - I found them to be a little more digestible when I was first getting into them.
The Head on the Door is the most digestible and one of my favorites, but I think Wish is my favorite altogether. Great mix of their upbeat poppy stuff and their drawn out epics.
Head on the Door is probably the best jumping off point, just for the various directions their career has gone in that all sort of come together there. But I wouldn’t disagree with anyone that said Disintegration is the greatest album ever and that one should start there.
Pornography's definitely my favourite these days but there are a number of good starting off points. I don't like that as a sentence but I'm leaving it.
