I haven't found somebody pull of that degree of weirdness in a genuine way while maintaining the heart of it all other than Hosking, but I'd recommend his other work if you haven't watched and An Evening With Beverly Luff Lin. None of them are quite on the same level as the Greasy Strangler but I dig them all.
The Greasy Strangler and Mandy are my two favorite more recent “cult” movies. Both are sooo good. Also, What We Do In The Shadows. But if we are talking about “so bad they’re good” kind of cult movies, you all MUST check out Foodfight. For an even more enjoyable experience, read about it before you watch it. You won’t regret it. Even though you will.
so at least a few of you have expressed interest in my idea of doing a cult movie of the week. I figure we'll start next week to give everyone ample time to prepare. I'm really excited at the prospect and my only real question is what do y'all think the first movie we discuss should be? I'm thinking one of the first midnight movies, like say Eraserhead, El Topo or Night of the Living Dead. any feedback would be greatly appreciated. let's do this
Finally watched Eraserhead for the first time the other week, don't think I've gotten all the filth off me yet.
@Cory, you good with starting off with Eraserhead for our weekly discussion? would you like to participate @estebanwaseaten? anyone else?
Hi guys!! Subbing to this thread. I want to do an Eraserhead watch/discussion, but is it available on any streaming apps?
I figure we'll start next Monday if that's cool with everyone and end the discussion on Sunday. then start over again that next Monday
Ok cool, so not necessarily a set time everyone sits down and does it together. I’m always down to be ruined by that movie.
Y'all should check out the Found Footage Fest if you haven't before. They just released basically a "best of" of their tapes. Some of the funniest, weirdest stuff out there.
