I'm supposed to finally watch Frankenstein this weekend. I like Del Toro but didn't have Netflix at the time, and proceeded to hear mixed things from friends, so it hasn't been a priority.
i saw it in theaters which was fun. it's not great and has some pretty glaring character problems imo, but it's not bad and i would probably watch again
personally liked frankenstein but i’m a sucker for the gdt flare that he injects into all his movies so i simply really liked his take on it
I also saw it in theaters. I love the novel, was hoping for something resembling that. It really dumbs everything down and dilutes the source material to the simplest possible interpretation of something that should be complex and bleeding with passion. But it is probably more accurate than the other adaptations that aren’t sympathetic to the creature. The set design is cool. Elordi is good. It’s not great but depending on your expectations, you may find something to enjoy
It is really weird that for all the adaptations over the years so many of them skew so far from the point of the novel. I can't think of any other major book that has so much divergence.
