Announcements today. I’ll be getting Body Heat, Sentimental Value and the Stray Dog upgrade.

I do have to say, I feel like Criterion artwork has sagged a little bit recently? There’s been a few bangers, Killers of the Flower Moon comes to mind, but I do find myself being a little disappointed with some of them. Idk. I just think Radiance has really crept up in a big way especially in terms of packaging and finding interesting titles. They’re doing different things I get it but still.

That was one of the best criterion closets I’ve seen. Idk any of those movies but I added like 3 of them to my queue on the channel solely on his enthusiasm for them

Watched Altered States last night….enjoyed it however the whole section where he traverses the city as a protohuman veered too much into the silliness territory for the tone before and after. But the visuals during the experiment sequences were incredible and couldn’t believe that was Hurt’s first performance - played the manic well.

 

yeah that was the only portion of the film I could do without

 

Altered States is so good. Like a precursor to both jacob's Ladder and Cronenberg's The Fly

 

I thought Altered States was fine. Visually a very cool movie with plenty of that classic Ken Russell flamboyance but I ultimately got tired of it towards the end. I need to go revisit it sometime in the future and give it another chance.

June releases announced yesterday, two John Waters titles in one month is very cool

 

really excited to pick up the new john waters discs, i have all of them so far so these will be good additions

very intrigued by West Indies: The Fugitive Slaves of Liberty

 

Will be picking up Carnival of Souls soon I think.

have about $20 in gift cards burning a hole in my pocket (one of which expires on Friday). nothing in the June announcements for me (and no word on any new Lynch releases/upgrades - where the fuck is The Straight Story?), so i think i'm gonna grab Videodrome 4K

 

Cronenberg's birthday was Sunday, this is a good call

 

Rumor is that the 50% off flash sale is next week, probably gonna pick up Network and Killers of The Flower Moon if I can get a copy of either.
