Got that 4K copy of Gummo, watching that kid eat spaghetti in the bathtub is gonna look so popping on my new OLED.
Is Gummo good? I have these in my cart: Mean Streets To Die For I Am Cuba All of Us Strangers McCabe and Mrs. Miller Time I’m considering Gummo and Happiness but haven’t seen either. Edit: happiness is sold out so I’ll have to wait on that one.
Happiness is one of my favorite movies and I really loved Gummo when I watched it earlier this year, but they're both definitely acquired tastes. There's a website called EffedUpMovies where both should be streaming if you want to get an idea of what they're like before pulling the trigger!
Gummo is a tough watch. So is Happiness, but Happiness is really great. (So is Mean Streets, good choice.)
still need to see Happiness but as far as Gummo is concerned: it’s very enthralling and definitely worth a watch but I still don’t really know how much I like it
Julien Donkey-Boy is probably the most abrasive of the Korine films, but Gummo is far from his more recent mainstream output.
Watching this today, stone cold classic. Would make for a great double feature with Street Trash imo.
Not in the collection, but on the channel, just had my first watch of Carpenter’s Christine. What a great movie, huge fan. Looks incredible, need to pick up a 4K of that.
Only problem with this 4K push from Criterion is that it’s kind of slowed my blu ray purchasing from the collection. Do I want to buy Beauty and the Beast and My Darling Clementine when they could be reissued a month later on 4K? Idk, I’ll probably wait. But do I want to wait?
yeah I've kind of stopped buying any older Blu-ray's now a days in general because of this. I almost purchased a copy of Don't Torture A Duckling from Arrow just for it to be announced for a 4K disc soon n
Pretty happy with my purchases from the sale. Been saving up all summer and had $60 in criterion rewards: Ingmar Bergman’s Cinema The complete Lady Snowblood To Die For The Devil’s Backbone Drive My Car Le Samouraï Kagemusha The Gunfighter
Criterion’s 4K rollout is a little slow and I wouldn’t be surprised if most have to wait years to get a 4K release. I’m not sure about the films from other countries, but a good indicator for Criterion’s Japanese films is if those same films have received a 4K release in Japan. If not, I highly doubt Criterion will release one and even then, who knows if Criterion will be given the opportunity to do so. A handful of Ozu’s films were released with 4K restoration throughout 2015 - 2017 (w/ English subs)…and not a word from Criterion.
Ended up going with: Time All of Us Strangers To Die For McCabe and Mrs. Miller edit: might be the first time I had no blind buys during a flash sale.
Picked up Uncut Gems and Boyhood from the sale. First Criterion discs and stoked to watch some of the extras on them
The second B&N sale is live for a month, picked up Happiness and preordered The Shape of Water. Probably will get a few more as the month unfolds, definitely gonna preorder Paper Moon and Paris, TX 4K too
Snagged Gummo and Lone Star! Might pick up the Araki trilogy on my next paycheck, and gonna get Paper Moon when it releases at the end of the month.
