Not sure where else to post this but I recently purchased the Arrow Academy release of Hideo Sekigawa’s ‘Hiroshima’ (1953) and holy shit. One of the most uncomfortable viewing experiences. It was one of the few films where I couldn’t sit down and enjoy the act of casual viewing a film. It certainly wasn’t due to the quality of the film, just merely the depictions of the aftermath. I visited the Peace Memorial museum a few months ago and this film gave me the stomach turns as that. Having said that, I’m surprised Criterion hasn’t picked this up.
was so sleepy that I didn’t finish but got thru the first 1/3 of last year at marienbad and can’t stop thinking about it this morning. the human sculptures were so affecting. Can’t wait to finish
I need to watch that again sometime watched it before I could really even appreciate it for what it is
I’m pleased to report that Michael shannon has given Twitter some great content as a part of his closet picks video
Sony UBP- X700M 4K Ultra HD Home Theater Streaming Blu-ray™ Player with HDMI Cable, Black https://a.co/d/b5BzONi Is this a region free player? Hard to tell. I know it needs to be modded, but can’t find if the seller “Toyarcade” has done so. I need one badly.
Just get one from 220-Electronics. Great site. 220 Electronics - International Relocation TVs DVDs Converters & More EDIT: Looks like they have that exact one. I didn’t get a 4K player for my region free since those discs are by default and it saved a bunch on the cost. If you only have room for one player I’m sure it’s worth the upgrade though. Usually if you add something to your cart and let it sit for a while they’ll email you a discount offer. Sony UBP-X700 m Region Free 4K UHD Blu-ray Player UBP-X700m
Yea, I’m mainly wanting to get a region free for all my blu’s and my eventual upgrade to a full 4K system, really nice that you don’t have to worry about regions with 4K discs.
Just grabbing Petite Maman and Thelma & Louise this month. I’m probably gonna go big in October for the one day sale, still a bunch I want (After Hours, One False Move, Targets, etc) but I need to reel it in.
I haven't kept up on a bunch of cross over from other companies but do you all think any chance that new 4K of Le Mepris will make it to Criterion? If not probably going to have to pay to import it. My favorite Godard. EDIT: Found this at the bottom of a press release... US: September 2023 via Lionsgate
The Others! 4K! Personally was not a fan of Nanny, but the Browning set looks really awesome. Already have Videodrome and Don’t Look Now on blu ray.
Watching Paris Is Burning on The Criterion Channel, this is one of the best documentaries I’ve watched in a while.
