Definitely in for The Irishman. Ghost Dog is great too, supplements look nice. I’m due to revisit Girlfriends. They’re definitely leaning heavy into more contemporary stuff this year
It's okay, but not what I expected them to do with it. Also I've been meaning to watch Moonstruck for a while now, so I'll give that a watch for my list next year.
This is partially why I have such a problem with their insistence on releasing so many more brand new films lately when they could be putting their resources towards elevating and canoning more works by African American filmmakers, and also turning towards more restorations of films from Africa, the Middle East, other Indigenous cinemas, etc. Their work seems more and more bent towards reinforcing the already existing canon than expanding it.
I bought a blu-ray of Black Girl. The only other two I’m waiting to get are preorders (Parasite, Minding the Gap)
an hour after taking an edible is about the worst time for me to have learned there was a criterion flash sale
I picked up Bruce Lee: Greatest Hits for a friend's Christmas gift. Excited to give it to him. I'm kind of new to Criterion. How often do they have these flash sales?
I grabbed Parasite, and I have a watchlist for November in case there's anything else I want to grab.
I watched Buena Vista Social Club (pretty good) and Polyester (AWESOME) last night, and I'm definitely grabbing the latter. I'm watching Claudine right now and enjoying it.
Unbelievably excited for Mandabi. I was literally about to watch it last week for a potential paper but I'm so glad I held off and can see it through this restoration for the first time. Watch African cinema!!
Yes I’m very stoked for that as well. Also loving the Marlon Riggs stuff on the channel right now, though excited to dig into the Denis I haven’t seen as well
