Depends on your taste but I think ‘A Touch of Zen’ is a masterpiece of the genre (martial arts). It’s almost three hours and takes a bit before it picks up but when it does it’s almost impossible for me to look away. The cinematography is mind blowing with some of the best sword fights I’ve ever seen in a film.
Donkey Skin is actually my least favorite of the Demy films I've seen. I think the Young Girls of Rochefort is my favorite these days, but The Umbrellas of Cherbourg hovers around there too. I recently watched One Sings, the Other Doesn't recently and I was blown away. One of my favorite discoveries of the year. It's one of her best and I hope the new release gets it circulating more.
Really hoping there is eventually a second set with some of the newer films. Those Son of Godzilla movies are fucking atrocious. I even hated them as a kid.
Absolutely. Also snagged the Arrow edition of Waterworld that’s pretty sweet but yeah, Punch Drunk Love is the money pick for sure!
It would be nice to have the collection for the other films. There’s only about 5 or 6 out of the collection that are not good. It’s probably also been since the mid-90s that I’ve watched both MechaGodzilla films but from what I remember (and their wiki plots) they are good films.
Hey I’m looking to sell my copy of the Six Moral Tales which I saw just went out of print. Just slightly above list price at $110 OBO. It’s posted on eBay https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/254322631746
What's the best Herzog? They have like 20 of his films on the channel but the only names I know are Aguirre (which I love) and Nosferatu
Grizzly Man is so good. Most of his documentaries after go too far into the Herzog-isms, but it works really well with the story of the man who lives with bears.
got the GDT Trilogy on the sale! so excited! looks beautiful! will be my first Criterion collection purchase
