Still convinced my second childhood home was haunted as well but the ghosts were on the friendly side.

one time my buddy in high school got really into paranormal stuff and thought he was going to be a ghost hunter. he got himself some "dowsing rods" which are supposed to move together when a spirit is nearby, so we used them in my basement because my mom said our house at the time was haunted. the rods moved together when we asked if a ghost was there and we freaked out and ran out of the basement. later my dad told me they were actually rods used to detect water, and they moved because there was a leak in the basement.
    that's my spooky scary story.

What are some of your favorite podcasts covering this stuff? Especially aliens and cryptids, not really interested in ghosts/hauntings. I used to really love Mysterious Universe (despite the hosts being right wing pieces of shit). Paranormal Podcast with Jim Harold is solid. Trying to find some stuff to listen to while sitting around a fire at night

Last Podcast on the Left, Astonishing Legends, Otherworld, for longer stories and in depth topics and Radio Rental and Monsters Among Us for short form listener stories although I feel like they eventually just start making up the stories for these.

Re-listening to the Halloween episode of Astonishing Legends from a couple years back about something a biologist from Arizona Fish and Game experienced while she was collecting data in a remote region of the Mogollon Rim. Really one of the wildest first-hand accounts I've heard from such a credible witness. Won't give anything away but it's more of a high strangeness thing than any other definable category.

  14. Otherworld for sure. You can usually read the description and determine if the episode is paranormal or more UFO/cryptid based. I also love going back to old Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell episodes...they're very dry and made for night listening before bed, though. And Art was definitely a conservative lol.

I was wondering if you'd been to that one. Did you hear the story they tell about what happened there when you were there?

It’s been a long time so I don’t remember the creepy tale they told us. But I went to the camp several times and one night they would take you to the cabin and you’d all just sit down and chill in the dark while they told us some story. I’ll remember the experience but not what story they would tell us

Ok I’ll share something that I can’t remember if I shared here or not. So sorry if I did. I don’t think it was paranormal but definitely weird and creepy.

About a year ago I went to a state park like an hour and a half outside San Antonio. Went specifically because there’s some river access and a lot of trails. So we parked by the area they let you get in the river. You have to walk probably like 15 minutes down some stairs from the parking lot and find a spot. So we spend some time down there, decent amount of people there but it was during the week so not too crazy. Spent like 2 hours down there and decided to get out and dry off and change to go hiking. So as we are walking back up, there’s this girl coming down the stairs trailing another group of kids. They’re all about high school age and while she wasn’t with them, it was reasonable that she was part of their group.

But the weird thing was she was wearing like this emerald green dress whereas everyone else there was dressed to go swimming or hiking. She was holding her phone and crying, like sobbing. But we didn’t think too much of it thought just maybe she was fighting with her friends or something. And this was at the top of the path by the cars. By this point we were mostly dry and kinda just had to put on shoes and maybe change a shirt. So we were in the parking lot maybe all of like 8 minutes. Never saw anyone come up from the path leading to the river. We decide to drive across the park to a different trail and start there. It’s like another 10 minute drive.

so we get out of the car and start out hike. Not even like 5 minutes in we see this exact same girl coming toward us. Like she was heading to this parking lot. Still crying. Still in the dress. But we just couldn’t understand how she got there. She was coming from the opposite side of the trail as if she had hiked all the way there from the river. Which would have been at least a 6-8 mile hike one way, if not more. The road to get there is a one lane road and we never saw cars behind us. And we saw her make it down to the bottom by the river across the park. So there was no logical way that she could have been where she was. Even if she had come back up and gotten in a car and driven, there just would not have been enough time. Still weirds me out thinking about it.

When my ex and I went to New Orleans, I insisted on staying in a “haunted” hotel, so we booked a room at at the Dauphine Orleans, which had come up in some lists of supposedly haunted hotels and was also featured in an episode of Ghost Adventures. Our room had once been part of a carriage house and had lots of exposed brick and a little closet with a deadbolt, which we kept latched although I don’t remember why or if there was a reason at all.

One of the first things we noticed our first night was that the lamp on my side of the bed didn’t work. A day or two later, we get back from dinner, change into swimsuits, and go out to the pool. When we get back, the lamp that hadn’t been working is suddenly on. I can’t remember if it stayed on or if it stopped working again, but we both laughed about it because of course: we chose to check in at a haunted hotel.

That night (or at least I think it was the same night), I wake up and have a lot of trouble falling back to sleep. I’m scared for no reason, everything seems hazy through my half-asleep eyes and the ceiling looks 200 feet away. I hear an unmistakable click: the sound of a deadbolt latching; unlocking.

I wake in the morning and think about the awful night of sleep. I remember feeling scared and I remember the deadbolt, although I can’t discern if the sound was a dream; imagination; nothing at all. When I get out of bed to check, the closet door is unlocked.

So yeah, nothing major but I still have fun thinking about this one and sharing it. We know we locked the deadbolt on the closet but because it wasn’t in use, we weren’t routinely checking it so it’s entirely possible and maybe even likely that housekeeping unlocked it earlier that day and we hadn’t noticed.

I have one more story I’ll share another time. It’s even less interesting than this one but it’s kind of funny, at least to me.

Anyway, the brown door on the right is the one.
