early reactions seem to be positive, though how much of that is for the movie itself or the fucking oscar chances, i can't tell

 

Has anyone seen this yet?

 

Well, I just sat down to see this, so we’ll see how it is. I actually haven’t seen the original but I plan to watch it after, but I read you don’t need to see the first to see this one since this one is an adaptation of the musical.

 

This was good! Fantasia was outstanding, and the rest of the cast was very solid, especially Taraji and Halle Bailey.

 

Thought this was technically very good. Great performances, really impressive musical numbers, but a lot of the rest felt messy. Poor pacing, structurally kind of a mess too and some of the transitions between song and narrative seemed jarring.
