I can't wait to see what Charli actually has in one of her upcoming movies. There's obviously a reason she's getting to work with a lot of great directors so fast. Someone saw something we haven't seen yet.
I’m super curious about this. I’m not the biggest fan of Greta but I’ll never say no to another Narnia adaptation
Haha I assumed most would feel that way. I have so much respect for her but I just can’t connect to her work. Narnia is one of the few things I held onto from Catholicism. I’ll just always be down to see new versions of it. And the Charli and Meryl castings are interesting and fun enough to keep me cautiously excited.
Can't see Meryl as Aslan, but I like Craig for Uncle Andrew, especially as he loses his grip through the Magician's Nephew. I'll keep an eye on this...
I don’t like Meryl as Aslan. From what I remember Aslan isn’t an allegory of Jesus, he’s supposed to be Jesus in that world, correct? As if Jesus stepped into the world of Narnia and took the form of a lion.
Yes, per Lewis, Aslan is the incarnation of Jesus in the world of Narnia. Don’t see why Streep can’t/shouldn’t voice him. Women voice male characters fairly often.
Changing Aslan, who is Jesus, just in a lion’s physical body, to a female character is what I don’t think they should do. Which I imagine they plan on doing if they cast Meryl as the voice actress, unless they have her sound more masculine. If it was simply an allegory for a Christ-like character then it wouldn’t matter and I’d be fine with whoever they cast, but Lewis wrote it to be more than that.
Because Jesus was/is physically a male, which is why Aslan is a male lion in the books. It’s Jesus in Narnia. That was Lewis’ intention of the character. Sure, the lion itself is a fictional character, but it’s supposed to represent, or in the world it is the historical Jesus.
Yea, I don’t see an issue with Jesus being incarnated as a female lion in an alternate world. Which may not even be what happens.
He's the Son of the Emperor Over-the-Sea, so it does actually. Seeing as his character is an expression of Christian theology, it's not arbitrary.
The Chronicles of Narnia isn’t some sacred text. C.S. Lewis wrote a children’s fantasy novel about a Jesus lion in 1950. It literally doesn’t matter. So a woman plays Aslan the lion. And? Lewis also ended the series by killing all of the children in a train accident and they live in Narnia heaven forever except for Susan who wasn’t on the train because she is a heathen who likes makeup and boys.
I cannot believe we’re actually having this conversation. Y’all mad at Ariana Grande for God Is A Woman too?
