Thank you brother! Never really listened to Local Natives but it’s oddly encouraging being compared to bands I don’t know. Ha. Seriously though thanks for listening and for the positive feedback!!
No problem, keep it going man! Your song also reminded me a bit of Absent Sounds, which I know you know for sure! Btw you should check that group I mentioned! They have great vocal harmonies and instrumentation.
Got this yesterday as my wife found a song by her two weeks ago and then you posting here reminded me of the album! It is really good. She does sound quite like Adele vocally, which in some ways is a shame as I can imagine the Christian market shoving her into a category and marketing her as the 'Christian Adele' when it's clear she's got a bit more to her than that. Talented, powerful voice, well crafted album. Thanks for posting, I'm glad I've bought this one.
Idk why I thought I didn’t like Lauren Daigle and am glad I decided to listen, because this is very good
I've had an idea inspired by @Chase Tremaine's JFH podcast. Apparently it's 25 years since the beginning of Tooth & Nail Records and JFH are doing a countdown of their top 100 T&N releases (including BEC, Solid State and other sub-labels). You can listen to the podcast where Chase discusses it here. (Great episode) They're revealing 10 albums each week. You can view them here. I wondered if people here would be up for doing something similar. Not a top 100 because that seems excessive, but maybe if we took a few weeks to each think and then we each posted our personal top 10 releases from T&N etc and the reasons why? What do people think? I'm going to do it anyway, haha! I want to really take time to dive into the records, revisit some of my favourites from the past and think about which I would consider my favourite 10. If you're up for it this seems like a pretty comprehensive list of all Tooth & Nail, Solid State, BEC and Uprok releases since the 1990s. It would be good to get some discussion going to celebrate one of the most significant labels in the Christian scene. If you're up for it, let's give a month for thinking/listening and then we can share our individual top 10s around the weekend of the 12th- 14th October. It will be fun because everyone will have varying tastes and thoughts. tldr: what are your 10 favourite T&N/Solid State/BEC releases?
Just glancing at discogs, these would all be high in some order on my list Anberlin - Cities Anberlin - Never Take Friendship Personal Mae - The Everglow Falling Up - Captiva Kings Kaleidoscope - Beyond Control
Love this idea! I actually already made a list of 50 that I sent to @Chase Tremaine because I was so inspired. Haha.
I'm so glad you're still enjoying the show! I haven't even promoted it in here in months! hahah I've been wanting to make a personal list, too. The top 50 from @Lucas27 is great.
Yep! That’s true - what do you think to a thread “Celebrating 25 years of Tooth & Nail / Solid State Records” and see what the response is? Some good choices right there! Not sure how to limit my list to 10 but looking forward to listening to some great music. You are ahead of the game! Yes, I’ve subscribed on my iTunes feed and any topic that I like the sound of I download and listen to! I like the conversational style - listened to the Mission Impossible episode on the way to work today. Levi the Poet episode is still my fav! I think you’re a great presenter/podcaster/interviewer (whatever you call it!) too by the way.
just gonna list in order of release, can you tell what era I was really into? Failure On- Beloved Hide Nothing- Further Seems Forever Catch for Us the Foxes- mwY The Everglow- mae The Question- Emery Define the Great Line- uØ Redeemer- Norma Jean Come Now Sleep- As Cities Burn The Tide Will Swallow Us Whole- Trenches Ixora- Copeland there were a few shoe-ins I later realized were released after the bands had left T&N, ie Long Live by the Chariot, but there’s still so many great records.
I have four of your top 10 in my own top 10. Another one in my Top 20, another one in my top 40, and another one in my top 50. So seven total. I'm going to have to dig into the three that aren't on my list!
So many great records. Interesting enough I've never gotten into As Cities Burn. I've seen them live and heard all their albums at least once, but they never stuck. Never heard of Trenches.. who they?
I checked out the JFH list and was a little offended CNS didn’t make the top 25 or 50, but Im hoping they just put SILYAYD higher instead. all of their albums are wonderful and each have been #1 for me at different times. Trenches is Jimmy Ryan’s post-Haste the Day endeavor, and one of my favorite heavy albums/first introductions to the sludgier side of heavy. while I love Carabba and Gleason’s albums, Hide Nothing is the one that really hit me (and was the only time I got to see them live on). Redeemer is definitely my favorite Solid State era record from Norma Jean, and got heavy rotation from me when it first came out.
This was not easy. 1. mewithoutYou - Catch for Us the Foxes 2. Anberlin - Cities 3. Further Seems Forever - How to Start a Fire 4. Beloved -Failure On 5. Mae - Destination: Beautiful 6. Underoath - They're Only Chasing Safety 7. The Juliana Theory - Emotion is Dead 8. Showbread - No Sir, Nihilism Is Not Practical 9. Emery - The Weak's End 10. Copeland - You Are My Sunshine
