I'm pretty sure He Is Legend was never a Christian band and I've never understood how they ended up on Solid State in the first place. I remember the band posted a photo on their Myspace where one of the members was wearing a "Wine Em Dine Em 69 Em" shirt and so many people got mad lol
Yeah they've always been adamant that they're not a Christian band, they were just friends with/playing shows with a lot of Solid State bands at the time so they ended getting signed to that label.
I just found a Reddit thread that he responded to that goes into a bit more. I would love to read his book if he ever writes it. https://www.reddit.com/r/HeIsLegend/comments/12ymf55/thoughts_on_this_he_is_legends_schuylar_croom/
I remember my HS brain thinking He Is Legend couldn’t possibly be a Christian band because I found out they smoked weed lol
I remember being a big Josh Dies fan in college and went to a solo show of his when he was coming out with new books and such. Also found out about Listener through him as well. Wild how much things have changed
On the topic of Listener, Dan put out an incredible and moving album this year under the name Dance Myth. It’s titled ‘the shapes we make’ and it’s honestly hitting me so hard. Just bought a ticket for a UK show too.
It’s honestly so good. He’s got four or five videos as well that are really well shot and contribute to the thoughtfulness and aesthetic of the release.
The gruffness in his voice is still there which I was worried about with this style of music. It goes really well together though!
Blindside's The Great Depression turns 20 this Saturday. Just submitted my 20 year retrospective review into our posting queue...
I look forward to reading that. I think that album is underrated compared to Silence and About A Burning Fire. The last two tracks are up there as my favourite Blindside tracks.
I remember seeing them with Showbread right around the time that album came out. I wasn't a fan before the show but immediately went out and bought that CD afterward.
I never got into Blindside, but their placement at Furnace Fest last year was one of the worst feelings I’ve ever had for a band. Squeezed between that Scogin and Norma Jean moment and their only chasing safety was… rough.
Ahhhh haha. Were people not that into it then? I genuinely thought they had the same appeal in that crowd from that era, particularly those who like their really old stuff. They must have had a good time with the fest though, especially when considering they’ve basically then gone onto do some more US shows and then announce a new album afterwards.
Oh, their crowd was still sizable. But that Norma Jean crowd was insane so a lot of people chilled out for a bit. Just saw my they’re their typo and ughhhhh
Yeah I really like blindside, but took a breather during their set because of the bands on either side. The vocals also sounded really rough.
I had bronchitis at the time and I spent their entire set coughing over in the trees because of the dust cloud.
Bleach, KeepWarm and The Easy Button – Murray Hill Theater I don't know how I missed this but Bleach is doing a show this month in Florida and playing at Furnace Fest?! I'm guessing it's just those two but some sort of tour or new music would be amazing
Bleach just did a live instagram yesterday and they are back! They are working on a 30 yr tour for 2026 and have a bunch of music so maybe a new record! They didn't give too many details but they said they have news that they can eventually share. I never expected to see them live again
Never really listened to bleach, I remember seeing their video on a T&N DVD back in the day. I’ve always gotten the vibe they are the Christian Weezer? Is that somewhat close?
