not sure if there's any fans of the bibleproject in here, but they did 'a year' in the sermon on the mount last year and solicited folks to record their own musical rendition of the lord's prayer. pretty cool initiative.

Miss this band. Their first full length was on a different level. Loved their other two albums too.

Listened to The Great Depression yesterday to celebrate. There are some all timers on there for me. Underrated album.

He’s living in Salt Lake City I think now. He got divorced and started a coffee company but I don’t know what else he’s doing now. Haven’t seen him in years. But like 2011-13, they were around a lot. Seth the guitarist was a child prodigy. He was like 15-16 on those first records. He dropped out of high school to be in ATH

John Mark McMillan puts out his new full length today titled Cosmic Supreme. He’s described it as a return to worship-style music and honestly I am really interested and excited for it.

As someone who struggles quite a lot with both Sunday morning services and generic worship music, this kind of lyrically thoughtful but expressive worship-style appeals to me (at least in my mind) - I’ll be giving it a listen when I have chance later today.

Honestly, always love JMM’s output. I probably didn’t connect as much with Deep Magic (last album) as the release strategy of every track as a single dragged it out and meant I didn’t give it the time it deserved. Peopled With Dreams, Mercury & Lightning and Borderland are some of my favourite records though.

Why did he stop using the Joy Electric name? It was pretty much just him for most of the project.

Already posted this in the Accountability thread, but feel it should be posted here too. This breaks my childhood heart. Genuinely feel sick over it.

Not directly connected but a friend of mine’s band won a contest to open for the Tait-fronted version of Newsboys and said the entire band was backstage drunk before the show and making fun of their Christian fans. Not people of character for a band singing about love and Jesus.

The other band members aren’t great either…waiting for their joint statement claiming they had no idea blah blah blah.

Yeah their response in that article about not having anything to say because Tait is the one who should have something to say about it disgusts me.

Anecdotally, growing up we had this high school youth group band (who named themselves “Thirsty 4 More” which…. I mean that’s worth a giggle) that got the opportunity to be an opener for The Newsboys at some show, can’t remember which one now. Anyway, this was back in the days of the Peter Furler line up, but the story I was told by our youth group band was that the Newsboys were all just huge dicks to them and Pete clearly thought very highly of himself, treating the kids in the band like they were beneath him. I remember that being a very eye opening moment for me.

Honestly the new Newsboys have given me the ick for quite a while. Most mainstream Christian music has very little to do with the Gospel.

That's a bummer to hear...I always assumed Peter Furler stepped away, at least partly, because the rest of the band was turning into a sad, bankrupt version of their former selves...but that's speculation on my part.
