My first of two recommendations from @Zac Djamoos was Petal- Shame

I had heard of Petal, but knew nothing about them. I envisioned a heavier band(maybe because that's the title of an Every Time I Die song) When the first notes hit, and the singing came in it was a pleasant surprise!

I might be way off on my take on it from a RIYL standpoint, but it reminds me of a female-fronted Weakerthans. The way she sings, the music in the background, all very reminiscent of the Weakerthans(which is a great compliment)

I really enjoyed the simplicity of the some of the songs. For example the song “Chandelier Thief” for the first half was just the singer and her electric guitar, before it kicked into the full-band for a really strong second half of the song. “Feel” is just her and her acoustic guitar, and works so well in the middle of the record. “Nature” was really unique in the sense that the song was driven by just drums and her vocals. It was very hard to compile my favorite songs off of this record without listing them all!

My only complaint is that they don’t have more music. I see that they have an EP that came out this year, so maybe that means a full length is on the way?! Great recommendation Zac!

My favorite songs were: “Tommy”, “Chandelier Thief” “Feel” “Shame” “Camera Lens II” “Photobooth” "Silly Heart"

@Larry David so glad you liked it! i def hear the weakerthans comparison - one of my favorite bands. pretty sure shes got an lp lined up for next year, but the comfort ep is great too. she sounds fantastic on those three tracks

I'm almost a little jealous you get to experience these records for the first time.

Maybe I'll go get a concussion or something to replicate the effect.

so im going to do @DesolateEarth's recs one at a time, bc ive listened to one more than the other haha.

    conditions' fluorescent youth:

well, i know everyone compared this band to s/t-era saosin back when they were big, and uh i see why. dude sounds a lot like cove, haha. a lot more pop centric tho i feel like (especially make them remember - that song and particularly the bridge is like a pop-punk cover of a saosin song). "natural competition" was an early standout - "a shade of yellow forever" has been stuck in my head for days haha. this is mostly a style ive kind of grown out of, even tho in high school this wouldve been insanely my shit. its still definitely good and i can see myself returning to it and im pretty interested in hearing their followups now. i wanna see if they kinda grew into their own a little bit more. the standouts for me were the two i mentioned plus "made ghosts"

My thoughts on Frank Turner - Tape Deck Heart:

I knew two songs from this record off the bat. "The Way I Tend To Be" has been a song I've kept very close to me throughout the years, so I'm surprised I hadn't checked out this album yet. It was a thoroughly enjoyable listen, but nothing on it struck me like that song did the first time I heard it. For whatever reason, the only off-putting thing for me at first was the way he swears. I'm not exactly sure why I feel that way considering I'm definitely not one to censor, but I guess at times I felt like he was just cursing just to curse.. and it did nothing to enhance his message. Just me though. I could see that being an appeal of his lyric-style for others. I really really like the back half of this record. "Polaroid Picture" especially stands out, and "Four Simple Words" is so sick. Overall, I didn't necessarily fall in love with it, but there's enough stuff here I could see growing on me even more, so I'm gonna give this one some more time! Thanks @Joe4th!

Round 3 records recommended by @jorbjorb

Relient K – Forget and Not Slow Down

I was familiar with this band especially with their album “Mmhmm” and their great hits like “Be My Escape”, “Who I Am Hates Who I’ve Been” and “Must Have Done Something Right” thanks to christian music channel I had on satellite TV (not a christian but I really liked some christian bands). Honestly this album lacks the big poppy choruses of that singles but I really enjoyed this record. It flows perfectly with it’s interludes and has really great lyrics. But after listening to FaNSD I immediately played “Be My Escape” and “Who I Am Hates Who I’ve Been”. I’m a sucker for great pop hooks.

Standout Tracks: If You Believe Me, I Don't Need a Soul, Sahara

    Mae – Destination: Beautiful

Now we’re talking. That’s why I think Chorus Music Club is such a great idea. I’m not sure I’d ever stumble upon this album without recommendation. And it would’ve been really sad if I missed it because this album is G O R G E O U S! It has absolutely everything I liked about early 00s emo music. Guitars are cool sounding, lyrics are great and drumming is out of this world. And what a voice this guy has! He kinda reminds me of Ben Gibbard with a little higher voice.

This album as a whole reminds me of Clarity by Jimmy Eat World and it says a lot. It’s heartwarming, hooky and has a lot of little details you notice after every new listening. And I’m 100% sure I will listen to it a lot.

Standout Tracks: Embers and Envelopes, Summertime, Giving It Away

Special thanks to @jorbjorb for recommending me this musical treeasure.

No freaking way hahaha... I’m an idiot. Funny cause while I was typing that up I literally thought “why do I feel like I did the wrong album?”

I didn’t get a partner for this week, so I’m going to listen to “Love, Ire, & Song” and report back.

Okay time for my write-up. It will be short because I didn't get as much time as I would have liked for these albums (okay I just listened to Wolves on repeat all week long...):

First up is He is Legend - Heavy Fruit. I really enjoyed this album. It was recommended to me based on my love for the Foo Fighters, but I think it isn't quite the same type of music, although it is quite good. I think this tends to be a little more on the metal side at times, while Foo Fighters are more on the rock side. Tracks that stood out to me were No Visitors, This Will Never Work, Something Something Something Witchy, Be Easy. The first half of the album was better in my opinion, but it was all good and I will probably check out their other material.

Second was O'Brother - Garden Window. I was a little familiar with this band as I have seen them open for Thrice on their farewell tour back then. This actually sounded a little like Fire EP Thrice at times, which happens to be I think my least favourite of the Alchemy Index EPs (I still like it though). This was an enjoyable listen, although some tracks were kinda long (looking at you Cleanse Me). I think I have a lesser chance of checking their other material, although this is their first album, so I'm curious to hear in what directions they went.

Thank you for the recommendations @Bloodsucker II!

Yeah, I should have prefaced. I don't find them analogous to Foo Fighters, but I feel like they are what Foo Fighters would sound like if they took their music into a heavier direction. Glad you liked it! It Hates You is probably my second favorite album by them.

I feel like O'Bro has pretty much abandoned the sound that is heard on this album. However, I do find it to be a really good introductory point. I feel like Endless Light is probably their most cohesive album, if you're interested at all.

    Thanks for listening!
