The Menzingers is #2 on my AOTY list, insanely great band/album, check out On The Impossible Past next.
War all the time isn't even Thursday's best, enjoy the rest of their discog if you get to it I'm forgive you for the atdi part
So here's my thoughts on my first recommendation of round 3 from @Matthewconte. Houndmouth - Little Neon Limelight (2015) I really liked this, after a busy weekend I finally got round to giving this a first listen on Tuesday and the album suited my mood perfectly. Just chilled out alt-country, perfect for turning down the lights and letting it wash over you, I found both vocalist's voices very soothing and again Matthew has picked something I wouldn't normally listen to and totally nailed it. My only gripe would be that I found the back half of the album to be weaker than the front half, with some song's I'd probably skip but closer Darlin' is an absolutely beautiful song. Other highlights include the song's Sedona, Otis, For No One and Gasoline. I've spent a lot of time with this album this week so haven't really given my second rec much love yet but I'll get on it over the weekend and hopefully get some thoughts posted tomorrow.
Thanks for checking these out - I’m glad you enjoyed them :) The rest of these bands’ discographies is definitely worth checking out too!
It is but you can't deny that full collapse has bangers. Understanding in a car crash? Cross out the eyes? Standing on the edge of Summer? I also honestly love the ambient tracks that book end the album
Also the bridge to steps ascending is a god tier moment in their discography it always makes me wanna just cry and tell all my friends I love them That's it, pack it in, this is the Thursday thread now
I have their Kill The House Lights DVD and I watch their live performances on it all the time, and them playing Steps Ascending gets me every time. My fave is A City By The Light Divided but I love them all. I think Full Collapse was my first album of theirs.
Time for my thoughts on my session #3 rec courtesy of @ComedownMachine Glass Animals- How To Be A Human Being I had never heard of this or listened to any song before this, Comedown rec'd it because I told him I love Portugal the Man. so naturally I was curious. Before I listened Comedown mentioned me in a post about how i'll soon have pineapples in my head, I was like "what?". This album was really right up my alley it's really fun and catchy indie rock, but it has a almost tribal feel at time with the drums and some of the back up vocals. The pineapple line comes on "Pork Soda" which is a very fun track with some unique/interesting lyrics. Comedown explained to em after 2 listens that each song is from the perspective of a different person on the album cover, and I found that a cool tidbit/concept. What i like best about this album is there's always something interesting that popping out all throughout the listen and each repeat listen gives even more. I checked out their first album ZABA because @Bloodsucker II told me it's the better of the 2. I did enjoy it slightly more but found both to be very solid great albums that I will for sure return to. Standout Tracks: Life Itself, Pork Soda, Youth, Take A Slice
I watched that for the first time over the summer and some of those A&R type dudes in it are so slimey and it's so visible that it's disconcerting. I haven't seen the live performances yet tho A City By The Light Divided is a masterpiece
Full collapse was my Thursday intro (and intro to screaming) but WATT is my second favorite album of all time. Full collapse has some viscerally gut punching songs but I think WATT is more consistent. Plus the bridge in steps ascending...
I listened to full collapse first for whole albums but the first song I heard was magnets caught in a metal heart I was just kidding about this being the Thursday thread
This is what I love about Thursdays discography, you could pick almost any album as their best and wouldn't be wrong. Only exception is waiting.
I guess I have to get this thread back on track @Mister Lyrical gave me Polar Bear Club - Clash Battle Guilt Pride or You, Me, & Everyone We Know - Some Things Don't Wash Out ? Polar Bear Club - both recs this week were music I don't typically listen to, but I feel like that's the point of all this right, I'm still not sure how I feel about the vocals on this but I overall liked it, no particular standout track You,Me,&Everyone We Know -so it turns out that I forgot that this band and MeWithoutYou are different bands haha, the gang vocals were fun on this, no one song really stuck out with me
