    Maybe so, maybe not.

    Sometime in 2003, I saw an absurd triple bill at Madison Square Garden: The Mars Volta, Queens of the Stone Age (fresh off Songs For The Deaf) and Red Hot Chili Peppers headlining. The crowd was SO confused by TMV.

    I saw The Mars Volta open for The Chili Peppers in like 2006, they were awful played a 40 minute jam and Cedric barely sang

    The Mars volta sounds like a confusing band just by like that whole cross scene thing they have going. Like it's weird sometimes having my frame of reference for them being "the band after atdi" and then if they're brought up I might think "oh they like atdi" but then it could be they're a chili peppers fan who found them that way or a big prog rock fan and then you can have all kinds of fun conversations
