As I noted, I like the guitar work on this album a lot, I liked the subtle prog-y quality to it, which I guess also isn’t my normal go-to but I found it fun. I listen to a lot of post-hardcore/metalcore fwiw. Idk, it wasn’t as straight-forward gritty punk as I expected and I appreciated the surprise. That’s not very helpful but it’s something haha thanks for the tip! Will check out.

https://www.facebook.com/slowburnpunk We have some really rough bedroom recordings on Bandcamp but we're getting some proper recordings done soon.
@Micool1 gave me the record, Mint +4 by Alice Merton last weekend. I’ve kind of sat on my review for it because I wanted to see how this record would sit with me. One thing that should be pointed out is Alice’s trajectory and background. She is a new artist that has been breaking out on the international level in Europe. However, she has lived in Canada and the US, along with the UK and Europe. This eclectic background is very recognizable in her music, which I think is a really cool element. You can hear the American pop influence mixed in with more Brit-pop and European music backdrops. This album, at its core is a modern pop record. However, I think it’s worth noting that the influences stretch from funk to dance-pop, and even includes some more stripped down moments with piano and acoustic guitars. The thing that makes me return to the album is that I actually really like her voice. And in pop music that’s pretty important. Songs like No Roots that feature a seductive hook and music that harkens back to prince with that funky rhythm and those guitar moments in the verses are proof of her long-term potential. I also like her songwriting growth from the traditional record into the additional four songs at the end. I thought most of those were better than a lot of the record. This is a good sign for someone who hasn’t released a lot of material. A lot of her early singles were included on this record, which also adds to its overall eclectic feel. if you are a pop music fan looking for a new and engaging artist, I would recommend doing a dive into this record. Mint +4 includes the relevant singles thus far, with the added bonus of new songs that show where she is going. From a RIYL standpoint, there were moments of Ellie Goulding for me and then even a little Sara Bareilles. This is a record that I played once and was sort of like, ok. But then you find yourself returning to it and the hooks start presenting themselves more. Thanks for the recommendation!
We're only on some dates and sadly not the more Northern ones but I hope you have a great time! They're always good live!
Great review. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. That little twist at the end of "F U Forever" where she actually says it is a brilliant little bit of songwriting. Your rec is going to be my commute soundtrack today. Looking forward to it.
I'm glad you liked it! This album is definitely a grower. I'll get around to writing my review this weekend.
@Petit nain des Îles and I exchanged records. He will listening to Master Volume by The Dirty Nil, while I’ll be listening to Vorstellungskraft by The Tidal Sleep.
@swboyd and I have traded. I was given: Set Your Goals- Mutiny they were given: Saint Asonia- Flawed Design
I had The Xcerts - Hold on to Your Heart from @GBlades I had heard of this band but hadn't ever listened. It sounded v polished and put together, like rly solid pop rock. First Kiss Feeling was a standout for me. Just loud and catchy and dancey! Loved the "I keep saying your name under my breath. I keep saying your name under my breath. You're all I want and I'm a nervous wreck 'cause I keep saying your name" line. The vocalist/band really reminiscent of another artist I enjoy but I couldn't put my finger on it so feel free to throw out some possible artists!! The album was a bit more idk like glossy than I usually go for but I feel like they'd be a really fun band to see live and dance to in a crowd. I first put the record on while driving in the fog alone at night and it def made the car ride more enjoyable and upbeat. It was a great rec, thank you! Made me feel like I'm in a pop rock rom com lol which sounds weird but that's what I thought of
Also even tho I'm not signed up I'll prob still lurk and check out some of the recs and give thoughts. I just don't wanna commit to certain records and then not follow through.
