I thought about asking for a different one but was trying to be open minded.

 

Wow!!!! I’m so so so glad you happened to like *both* record’s so much. Incredibly grateful for your interest in my artistic endeavors and even more so that you found so much to appreciate in the album. I feel like what you got out of it was exactly what we were going for.

I’m going to try and post a write-up about the albums you gave me tonight, but I do want to listen to them just one more time each before I do. I liked them both

 

Despite being into similar bands in the scene, I never really listened to Story of the Year besides some of the early singles. Not sure why that is, though. The Constant is not album that I would probably include in my current rotation since a major change in taste since then. For the opener, I'm always a sucker for children choirs being included in songs. This album was able to mix multiple genres with the early 2000s post-hardcore sound. I do think these songs would feel better in a live setting as they can be a little forgettable with the rest of the bands at the time. A big stand out for me is To the Burial, and has perfectly captured the emotions since the election. As for Greek Fire's Deux Ex Machina, the best way to explain this album is hearing an old song that you cannot quite put a finger on what it is but you think you've heard it before. Apparently it's a side project from members of SOTY. The synth moments could be fun, but the album felt too much of a tribute to classic stadium rock for my taste.
