I'd love to discover new music, but honestly most albums I like are albums most people here have already heard...
I think maybe over the week it wouldn't be a bad thing for us to post a (subtle) list of bands whose discographies we're very familiar with so as to avoid needing to keep throwing albums at each other. I also like the idea of giving somebody 3 releases from an artist and then asking them which they like the most, if at all.
So I guess The Flaming Lips made a 24 hour long album, but I haven't been able to find it yet anywhere. That would suck to get that assigned to you!
So a few questions and comments here... 1) Is this going to start this Friday? 2) Who is in charge of assigning the pairings? I assume it's @BTDandFeelingThis 3) It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to post a full list of participants prior to making the assignments just to make sure nobody is left out. Also, if there's an odd number, there could just be a group of three. Person A assigns albums to Person B, who assigns albums to Person C, who assigns albums to Person A. 4) 3 albums seems a bit much, to be honest. I think 1-2 is more reasonable. If we do 2, I like the idea of picking an older release and a newer release. I don't know that we have to put strict limits on it (like one release MUST be from 2017). 5) If there was a full list of participants posted, maybe everybody could just say two or three genres (or bands) that they enjoy. That way when you have someone paired with you, you can have a general idea of what they like. Not saying that you can't assign something out of the box, but it may help.
1) Yea 2) yes I will be putting everyone’s name in the same generator we used for brackets 3) I do intend to make a list each week, and post it prior to pairing. 4) you are correct, 2 is more feasible 5) good idea, but I also encourage genre breaking to expose others to other music
Would the album assignments happen in this thread or in private messages? I could see a lot of back-and-forth there if somebody has already heard the albums that the other person is assigning
Private message works best. Could possibly makes some friends that way! Final thoughts and progressing through the week will be posted here though
Throw me in this @BTDandFeelingThis . Also just throwing this out there. I like the idea of having an exchange between two people, but I think you could also maybe do a group one as well. Maybe have one person (probably @BTDandFeelingThis ) pick an album for the whole group to listen to. Then for the following week a new person (@ComedownMachine as an example) go next. So every week someone new would get a chance to have the whole group check something out.
The best way to establish an order would probably who asked to be included in this group first. Then go through the list and start back at the beginning again. If someone joins midway through throw them at the end of the current list.
Well start compiling a list and making the pairings Friday and Saturday, so start considering your recommendations!
