Nominee - Drag Me Out 7/10


Nominee is a pop-punk band with heart-on-my-sleeve lyrics and shouty vocals. Some songs remind me of The Story So Far and some are similar to Real Friends. Upon my first listen, the EP sounded rather cookie-cutter. But, after more listens, the hooks and personal lyrics kinda grew on me. The second track, Stay, was on repeat a lot. The ending vocals were rad and I totally related to the lyrics:

I was holding it together
When you started to notice me
Falling apart at the seems
I'm visibly nervous
Embarrassingly anxious
Waiting for you to leave
But you stay with me

I wish the EP was longer, since the tracks are hit-or-miss. Like other bands in the genre, they tread the line between poeti and just whiny. I hope see a full album soon. The EP isn't perfect, but it has me bobbing my head.

I mean, if the point of the music club is to write a short review, that’s what I thought I was doing. In here, I’ve been honest and critiquing the albums. Hell, even my favorite stuff has room for critique.

 

You’re doing a fine job buddy. Critiques are perfectly fine don’t let anyone tell you otherwise

 

7/10 is a solid rating! And EPs are tough because there's only so many songs - to me, more songs means more music to potentially "grab" my attention and interest.

Yea he’s the lead singer also one of my best friends. I just meant I’m not gonna send this to him mainly bc or the whining comment but you didn’t do anything wrong

 

Definitely count me out from next week. Have hospital appointments and now 4 more since I don't think anyone realised I said to do the same last week.

It's just way too busy after work to commit but will be next and the week after to y get them.

 

AN ANNOUNCEMENT

Due to the wedding planning, and the upcoming wedding and honeymoon I am temporarily stepping away from reviewing and running CMCS. My leadership duties will be passed over to @bachna84 and @Nate_Johnson as well as @Patterns in Traffic and the rest of the staff in my stead.

This is not goodbye just a break. I will come back the third week of November to take back over the club and catch up on reviews. Thank you all very much and keep CMCS alive and going in my stead!

 

Good luck with the wedding Kev, it’s totally understandable you taking a step back for a bit with all that going on.

I’m sure the others will be able to carry on the time honoured tradition of rec’ing Starset to the newbies

Hey everybody, a couple things I'd like to say:

1) I took the last CMCS pairings (8/27 - 9/3) and used that list for this group of pairings. I removed the people who have indicated that they would like to be left out of this session.

2) I'll plan on posting the upcoming pairings on Saturday evenings. If you would like to be benched or would like to be unbenched, it'd be awesome if you let me know before then!
