I am broken after 2000 Trees. I twisted my ankle in a pit at Boston Manor and then landed on it crowd surfing to Creeper and I might as well be a puddle now. Broken.

Hope your ankle is on the mend mate, Thursdays Cave lineup was so good. Boston Manor, Turnstile and Creeper were so damn good.

I came out with no major injuries but I did do so much pitting at the weekend that my bruises now have bruises.

I’ll pm you tomorrow about trading this week once we’ve both had some time to recover from Trees.

I’ll prob right a mini review of 2000 Trees up tomorrow once I’ve recovered from the weekend. I saw a lot of bands over the 3 days and the majority were great to amazing. Also found a few new bands that might make their way into future CMCS recs.

I want to take a moment of everyone's time to issue an apology.

An apology first to @teebs41, someone I consider a dear friend, for disrespecting not only him but his review. I am nobody to tell anyone how to write a review. I was wrong in my response to his review and lost site of the meaning of the CMCS: to have fun listening and sharing amazing music and giving our thoughts on it. Him and I have spoken and have hashed things out but I expect anyone and everyone to call me out on something like that if it ever happens again.

That leads to my next apology: to everyone I have ever offended on CMCS or Chorus for that matter. If I have appeared "brash" or controlling, I am truly sorry and that is not who I am. Since the moment I have joined the CMCS, I have only wanted the best for it and to have the best people on Chorus within it. Once again, I lost site of the purpose of the community. My intent is not to scare people and if you have the chance to truly get to know me, you will know that I am a very selfless and giving person. I would go out of my way to help each and every one of you to the fullest extent I was able. If you have left CMCS because of me or are hesitant because of something I have said or done, please do not hesitate to call me out and have a conversation with me one on one. I am far from perfect and don't pretend to be.

Once again, thank you @Bad Frequencies for making this amazing community and I am happy to be a part of it. Thank you to every person that has been a part of it as well!

I'm listening to the album by The Fratellis now! Good stuff. I liked Costello Music, but for whatever reason haven't checked out much of their other work.

For anyone interested, I saw Jimmy Eat World last night!

Jimmy Eat World with support from Rozwell Kid
    House of Blues Cleveland
    7/15/18

I've been a fan of Jimmy Eat World since they got big in 2001 (and I've since gone back to check out their prior material), but I had never gotten around to seeing them in concert before last night. They were in the Cleveland area last year on a co-headlining tour with Incubus, but I am not a big fan of the venue and the shorter length of the co-headliner setlists kept me from going. When this show was announced back in March, I knew I had to go. The House of Blues in Cleveland is a relatively small venue (1,300 capacity if the internet is to be believed) and I was looking forward to a long headlining set. Also, I enjoy Rozwell Kid's albums and I've heard great things about their live show.

I went to this show solo, so I timed it to get to the venue shortly before Rozwell Kid came on stage at 8. My wife likes Jimmy Eat World, but it would've been about an extra $100 for her to go (her ticket plus the cost of a babysitter), plus it was on a worknight. Also, most of my good friends in the area are either country fans or classic rock fans. On a side note, I really don't mind going to concerts alone. The only downtime really is before the show starts and in between sets and since there were only two bands, that wasn't too bad. Plus I have my phone to keep me busy between sets and I have the freedom to move around wherever and whenever I want without having to worry if the person I with can see.

So I get inside around 7:45 and buy an $11 beer (technically a $10 beer, but I like to follow glassjaw's advice and tip my bartender). I found a pretty good spot to stand upstairs and Rozwell Kid came on promptly at 8. They opened with their song UHF on DVD from their latest album Precious Art. I think they played a good mix of songs - 4 off Precious Art, 5 off their prior album Too Shabby, and 2 off their Good Graphics EP. Their highlight of their set to me was the second song they played - Halloween 3.5 off their album Too Shabby. I thought they sounded great and the band was fun to watch. I enjoyed the quirky banter in between songs and I would love to see them again if I get the chance. They played for about 40 minutes and after a brief 20 minute set change it was time for the almighty Jimmy Eat World to take the stage.

Promptly at 9 the band came out and kicked off with the Integrity Blues track Sure and Certain. I thought the band was really on point the entire night and the songs sounded great. They followed that with I Will Steal You Back and Big Casino which was a really solid 1-2 punch. They did a good job for the most part of playing material that spanned their entire career. They played several pre-Bleed American tracks (For Me This Is Heaven, Lucky Denver Mint, Blister, and Static Prevails' Thinking, That's All). On one hand, it's kind of cool that they played something off Static Prevails, but on the other hand, I would've preferred to see them play something like Kill, Chase this Light, anything off of Invented (they didn't play a single track from the album), or one of Integrity Blues' deep cuts. That's a pretty minor complaint, considering that the band played a 27 song (!!!) set that spanned two full hours.

The highlights of the set for me were Futures (one of my favorite songs of theirs and it sounded fantastic live), Pass the Baby (that ending is awesome), Hear You Me (this song still gives me shivers), Dizzy, 23 (a bit more on this later), Blister (it was cool for them to have a song in their set where Tom got to take the lead on vocals), and Bleed American (so much energy for that song).

The setlist was a bit odd in that the final pre-encore song and all 4 encore songs were all off Bleed American. I would have liked to see them spaced out a bit differently, but again, that's a very minor criticism. One genuine complaint that I have is people who talk during the songs. After Rozwell Kid wrapped up, there were a few people that moved into the area near me who I could tell were going to be a problem (as far as talking and being obnoxious in general). When this one guy started loudly talking about the last time he saw Papa Roach, I knew it was time to relocate. I headed downstairs to the main floor and stood near the back of the venue. I'm a pretty tall guy (3 inches taller than the height that @Kingjohn_654 claims to be) so I wasn't worried about being able to see. The crowd that was near me was good for the most part, but it's pretty easy to see who is a more casual fan judging by the people who are going to the bar or the bathroom during songs like 23! I swear, there were several people near me that used 23 as a 7 minute long intermission instead of taking in (arguably?) the band's best song.

Anyway, I didn't let that detract from a wonderful night of music. I can't wait to see Jimmy Eat World (and Rozwell Kid) again!

Here's a picture that I took shortly after Jimmy Eat World came on stage. It's not the best picture, but I'm not a professional photographer.

CMCS CONCERT REVIEW: FESTIVAL D'ÉTÉ DE QUÉBEC (QUEBEC CITY SUMMER FESTIVAL) 51ST EDITION:

For anyone who doesn't know what the Festival d'été de Québec is, it's an 11-days festival that started off as a little thing that just had local artists and slowly grew up to become the biggest Canadian festival and actually one of the biggest North American festivals. There are around 10 stages around town in both outdoor and indoor venues, including the Plains of Abraham that can take over 80,000 people. The pass for 11 days is only around 100 CAD and the lineup this year looked like this:

    95D6F882-34F5-42E4-9037-730285F1EAE1.jpeg

    Thursday July 5th: Brockhampton/Chromeo/The Weeknd
It was the last day of the heatwave and since it was not a band I particularly loved, I decided to start slow and stay in the hill in the back where I could sit. I missed the first band of the night (Brockhampton), but Chromeo was pretty good! They got the crowd moving and made me want to get up and dance. I had heard good things about this band and they didn't disappoint.

I had planned to go on another smaller stage to see Jethro Tull instead of staying for The Weeknd, but that other venue was full, so I stayed on the main stage. I'm not a big fan of The Weeknd, but I like a couple songs. From where I was it seemed like the crowd was more static than during Chromeo. The music is more slow and less dance-y so it might explain why. He played most of his hits about midway and it got the crowd moving, but a lot of people left around that time. I actually got bored at one point and considered leaving but I stayed until the end. I ended the night with a bunch of strangers I met outside.

Friday July 6th: Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real/Kurt Vile and The Violators/Neil Young

Again I missed the first artist and the second one didn't give a lasting impression on me I guess because I don't remember what it sounded like sadly. Neil Young was pretty good though. Before going to the show, I was pretty sure I knew some of his songs, but I didn't recognize any of them during the show. I still sang along to some tracks, Rockin' in the Free World in particular. It was his first time in Quebec City, which is surprising given how long he's been playing music, and you could see he was really happy to be there. He was very generous and played until 11:30 instead of 11PM. He probably would have continued longer if he could have.

Saturday July 7th: Nothing interested me so I took a break.

    Sunday July 8th: Oh Wonder/Camila Cabello/Shawn Mendez

Again, I missed the first band. I got there in time for Camila Cabello. I went there thinking I wouldn't like it based on that annoying Havana oo na na track (goddamn I hate that fucking song), but she was actually really good! I even recognized some songs that I didn't know were from her. I think she talked way too much between songs though. She took time to explain the story of her songs for like 4-5 minutes between tracks and went backstage and came back a couple times. It killed the flow of the show.

Then came Shawn Mendez. It was also his first time here (as well as Camila) and again you could see he really enjoyed it. I think the guy has talent for a 19 years old and I actually like his music, but at some parts the show fell flat. But during the hits, you can bet everybody was singing in a sea of cell phone lights. There were no encores though. Everybody was expecting him to play his songs with Camila Cabello, but it didn't happen.

Monday July 9th: Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls/Greta Van Fleet/Foo Fighters

THE BIG NIGHT. 3 years ago, the Foo Fighters came to the festival. It was during the Broken Leg tour, when Dave Grohl had broken his leg and played on a custom made iron throne. I was so excited to finally see the Foo Fighters, as was everyone else. Everything was going pretty well. Royal Blood had played a great set and a giant Foo Fighters flag had been lifted in front of the stage. Then the first notes of Everlong started playing and when the flag dropped, BAM! This happened:

    752896B7-2493-41AD-B56D-F28C8E500FBB.jpeg

Pouring rain, huge thunderstorm. It was crazy! Dave Grohl didn't want to stop, but after 4 songs, they took him off the stage because it wasn't safe. Best 4 songs I've ever experienced in a live show.

Now 3 years later, it was time for Take 2. I arrived at 2PM to be sure to be in the front. For 4 hours I had to suffer the heat and the annoying 17 year old girl who was already drunk 3 hours before the gates opened. I ran like hell and got to the front. Frank Turner gave a hell of a show, even standing up on the crowd. Nobody knew him, but everybody was impressed. Then Greta Van Fleet came on stage while dark clouds covered the sky and rain started pouring. They were less my style, but they were really talented. Sadly, everybody was more preoccupied by the sky, hoping it wouldn't end like last time.

The rain stopped before the Foos came on stage and they played possibly the best show I've ever seen at that festival. They were supposed to play until 11, but wanted to play longer and were granted permission to play until midnight. They played 4 tracks from
Concrete and Gold, but the rest of the show was just hits after hits. You could tell they were having the time of their life and we were too. They touched the people.

Tuesday July 10th: Nothing interesting for me, so another break.

Wednesday July 11th: A little bit of everything

That night, I went to see America and Air Supply on the 10,000 places stage, in a small park, but when I arrived, it was full and the gates were closed. I stayed outside and tried to see the screen. After America, I left and went at a restaurant to eat. Then I walked around the site to look at the other activities. I decided to go to the Plains to see a little of The Chainsmokers. I stayed for 3-4 songs and left as it wasn't my thing, but it seemed like a crazy show with pyrotechnics and all. I finished the night looking at a screen showing the Air Supply show and I went home.

Thursday July 12th: Girls in Hawaii/Phoenix/Beck

Missed the first band again (seems like a recurring thing now). Phoenix and Beck both got the party going. I knew 2-3 tracks from each of them. Beck's set was a little short, but the encore where he just improvised was really crazy. Overall it was a great night.

    Friday July 13th: Milk & Bone/Cyndi Lauper/Lorde

Guess what? I missed the first band again. Cyndi Lauper was pretty good. Even at 65 years old, she still got it. She even invited the first band to play with her on stage. It wasn't the biggest crowd though, and a bunch of people left after Cyndi.

Lorde was another artist of which I knew a couple tracks. The first thing I noticed was how in awe she was looking at the crowd. She had a huge smile for the entirety of the show and seemed so sweet. Her music didn't lift the crowd too much, but her enthusiasm was enough to bring a smile to everyone. Unfortunately, no matter how many times I changed places, I always ended up next to annoying shouting and talking people.

Saturday July 14th: The night that wasn't planned

That night was Silverstein, Bullet for my Valentine.. Oh wait, BFMV canceled for illness and were replaced by Atreyu. So anyway, it was Silverstein, Atreyu and Avenged Sevenfold.. Oh wait, Avenged announced to the festival that they had to cancel for illness 3 days before the show. Doing everything they could, the festival organisation reached out to some bands, including Deftones and Godsmack, for replacement without success. Until 48 hours before the show when Alexisonfire, who weren't on tour, had no equipment and crew, said "yeah, we'll do it". Sure, Alexisonfire isn't big enough to fill a 80,000 people venue, but they still brought in a nice crowd.

So the show was finally Silverstein, Atreyu and Alexisonfire. Silverstein opened in front of a scarce crowd, but they gave a great show as usual. They repeated that they love playing here, as on their first tour ever Quebec City was the only place that gave a damn about them. I would have preferred them as headliners though since they're one of my favorite bands. My only critic is that the end of the show fell flat. They played My Heroine and the crowd sang along and I thought it was the end, but they ended with The Afterglow with a static crowd and it felt weird.

Atreyu were also great. I thought they wouldn't play many songs from Lead Sails, which is the only album I knew from them, but they played 4 in a short 45 minutes set. Alexisonfire were brilliant and they gave everything they had. For a show that wasn't planned 48 hours before, it was incredible even though the set was short.

    Sunday July 15th: Rouge Pompier/PUP/Sum 41

The last night. At this point, the stairs and cliff I had to climb everyday to get there seemed like a huge mountain. This show was at the smaller venue from Wednesday, so I knew I had to get there sooner or else I'd be stuck outside. Rouge Pompier are a band from Quebec, singing in French that only a couple people seemed to know, but that still got mushpits and a wall of death going. That crowd was crazy and started mushpits even when no song was playing. PUP also gave a good show. It was a hot night so the security guys threw water at the crowd in front so we were all wet when Sum 41 came on. As soon as the first notes of Over My Head were played, all hell broke loose and the entire show was a fight for survival. Survive I did and an incredible show I had. It was hits after hits just like the Foos. They even played Pieces, which they haven't played since last summer. The trio of Pieces, Welcome to Hell and Fat Lip as the encore was crazy. Sum 41 loves playing here and they said in an interview that we always have the craziest crowd here. At the end of the show, my entire body was sore. But what a way to end the festival.

So here's my review of the fantastic festival we have here in the UK called 2000 Trees. This festival is a small festival with a 10k cap that book quite diverse lineups in the Rock/Metal/Punk/Indie genres and is set in the rolling hills of the west country. Sorry for how long it is but I didn't really know how else to write it :-)

    Day 1

So the first day I managed to catch a lot of bands that I was already familiar with. First up I saw Palm Reader in The Cave (the heavier stage where I spent most of that day) who are one of my favourite metal bands from the UK. I hadn't seen them live since they dropped their new album this year and it was great to see so many new songs in their set. The new tracks sounded huge live and the crowd was pretty packed for them which was cool to see.

Next up I caught Press To Meco after some mates I was with were bigging them up. These guys were pretty cool, they were a 3 piece that played alt rock in a similar vein to Biffy Clyro and Arcane Roots. The main thing that hit me with this band is that all 3 members sing main vocals and harmonise a lot with each throughout their songs which was pretty impressive live.

Boston Manor were up next and they killed it. Their mix emo and pop-punk seemed to go down really well with the crowd who were well up for it and it was super fun being down the front for it (there were so many crowd surfers).

Right next I caught one of the main bands I wanted to see this weekend and my god Turnstile didn't disappoint. I'd been wanting to catch these guys for a little while now. Their set was the most ridiculously high energy set of the weekend and the pit went off. I've been to Trees 4 times now and I've not seen a crowd go so mental for a band as much as they did for Turnstile. The band killed it playing their imo perfect blend of hardcore and it was a super fun set of mostly tracks from their new album Time and Space.

Finally I ended up at the main stage to catch the awesome Marmozets, another band I'd been wanting to see live for a while now. At this point I was starting to get slightly tipsy but from what I can remember they were great live and played a good set with a good mix of songs from both their albums, the new songs in particular sounded huge live.

Last up for day 1 I caught At the Drive In, who I thought were good but nothing spectacular. I'd heard they were meant to be a bit crap live but they played decent enough, their just doesn't seem to be the energy there for them like their used to be back in the day.

    Day 2

First up for day 2 I caught Nervus on the Neu stage which is one of the smaller stages for up and coming bands. I've been pretty into the most recent Nervus album so it was great to finally catch them live. The band were super tight (especially considering they had a fill in bass player). Between Em's great vocals, the bands great mix of punk and emo and Pauls hilarious dancing, as well as the massive singalongs from the crowd this was super fun way to start the day off. I really hope this band blow up on their next album (whenever it comes) as they deserve to be much bigger than they are currently.

After Nervus we went to the main stage to catch The Dirty Nil, unfortunately for them it decided to chuck it down just before their set so the crowd wasn't too big but that didn't stop the band from rocking out and delivering a great slab of punk mixed with rock and roll. Everyone (myself included) that did turn up for them seemed to have a super awesome time down there in the front while getting wet.

Next up I caught 2 new bands I'd never heard of before who both really impressed me. Also both acts had really strong female vocalists that held such great stage presence which was awesome to see. I caught both the Nova Twins and Dream Wife on the Axiom stage (the 2nd stage). The Nova Twins set was mental and proper went off with everyone bouncing around having fun. They played a mix of heavy rock with hip hop beats, lots of funky stuff coming from their bassist who had mad skills, then fronted by a very charismatic frontwoman who sang with a mix of screamed and rapped vocals.

Dream Wife were up next and their set was really fun too, they kinda reminded me of the band The Sounds but with a whole chunk of riot girl influenced punk thrown in. Again another super tight band that had so much stage presence, they had quite a feminist tinge to their lyrics which was awesome to hear, they had a song called F.U.U (fuck u up) which was just such a jam. I've checked out their album today and I can see me possibly rec'ing this one in here some time.

Next up was another band I'd been wanting to catch live for a while and that was Touché Amoré back in the Cave tent. They killed it with their punk tinged post-hardcore sound and my god this set destroyed me both physically and emotionally, what a band. They played a set mostly comprised of songs from Stage Four which is just a phenomenal album, which if you don't know is about Jeremy's (the vocalist) mother dying of cancer. After a day of a fair bit of drinking seeing those songs played live with such emotion just ruined me by the end of their set but my god it was an amazing performance.

Thankfully straight after them were Creeper who brought the posi mood right back with the massive singalongs and their imo perfect blend of emo, punk and bombast. I've seen Creeper live a lot over the past few years and this set is right up their as one of the best. The tent was packed and the crowd was mental, circle pits opening up left right and centre and crowd surfers galore. It was good seeing Creeper mix up the set a little bit too (as truth be told I was getting a little bored by similar setlist) They then played a cover of Meatloafs You Took The Words right Out Of My Mouth which was incredibly cheesy but still fun. After Creeper I caught a bit of Twin Atlantic but after Creepers set I found they were a bit boring so I went and got food.

    Day 3

Saturday was really hot so I didn't catch as many bands as I'd have liked to but I still saw some great ones. First up was Haggard Cat on the main stage, they played a kinda heavy rock and roll with lots of scream vocals. I watched them from afar and they were alright.

Next up I caught The Xcerts acoustic set on a stage called the Forest (unsurprisingly this is set up in a load of trees). This is a really beautiful setting for an acoustic stage and Murray (vocals, guitar) and Jordan (bass) killed it there. It was pretty packed but we got there early to get a good view (and to hide from the sun). They played mostly older songs here from their first 3 albums, which as a fan of this band for years was great to see. I'm fairly certain I hadn't seen them play one of them live before either (Carnival Time), they also did a killer cover of Tiny Dancer. The highlight as always though was the closer Aberdeen 1987 from their debut album, Murray came into the crowd to perform this and the whole crowd had a massive singalong with him. I'd seen him do the same thing 2 years ago at Trees but it was still just a special the second time round.

After that I saw Blood Command in the cave tent who's female fronted punk hardcore was great, shame the crowd wasn't to big for them though. It did remind me I need to go back and listen to their album from last year again as I loved it at the time it came out. After them I caught a bit of Queen Kwong who were ok but they had some sound issues so the set had a few interruptions. They were female fronted indie/alt rock, they sounded quite cool so I'll prob check them out some time.

Next up was The Xcerts again but their full band performance on the main stage. As always they killed it and I had a very good time right down the front singing along to every word. Their set was pretty much all from the new album bar a couple of their classics, it was great seeing the new songs live again as they go down so well live. One thing I didn't realise till I saw a photo today was just how many people turned up for them. Which was amazing to see as imo this band deservers to be so much bigger than they are now.

One last thing Murray gave a really great speech about dealing with depression and suicide prevention before dedicating We Are Gonna Live to Scott Hutchison from Frightened Rabbit (who took his own life earlier this summer and who were meant to be the Friday Headliner). I think it's really important to talk about this stuff so it was great to hear that. He also dedicated the song to Tom Searle from Architects (who this song is about) which really choked me up as I still miss Tom a lot.

Next up I caught Skinng Lister in the cave who I knew I'd have a great time at (and I very much did). They're pretty much a British version of Flogging Molly and they definitely had one of the most fun sets I saw all weekend and they definitely killed off what I had left of my voice while I was having a good old knees up.

Last up for the whole weekend I saw Enter Shikari decimate the main stage during their Saturday night headline set. I've been a fan of Shikari for a while now but have only caught them live a few times so it was awesome to be able to add another show to the list. They played a whole range of tracks spanning their career, although only 1 from The Mindsweep which I was a little gutted about. Still they were on such great form, they crowd was insane and I haven't seen a pit that big for a long time. Their blend of metal, punk and dance beats went down a storm in a festival environment and as always their light show was awesome. One thing which I'd say that was maybe not the best idea at a festival was that they brought their quadraphonic sound setup to the main stage, which if you weren't stood in between the 4 massive speaker stacks lost it's weight a bit and sounded a little flat. For me that wasn't a problem though as I was right in the middle of the ridiculously rowdy crowd and loved every second of it.

So to sum up my 2000 Trees this year I saw a lot of cool bands across the weekend. Some I'd seen loads of times, some I'd been waiting to see for a while and some I'd never even heard of before. I have so many bruises from there various pitting I did, so much so I think some of my bruises have their own bruises now. This festival is always something special and every year I have such a blast. It's super chilled out and easy to get around and you often see the bands wondering around having a great time too which is cool and it's pretty cheap too (in comparison to a lot of other UK festivals).

One thing that deserves a mention was just how much female representation was up on the stage this year which was so awesome to see. When I saw Refused headline the other year they called them out for the lack of female acts from the stage so it's awesome to see they've taken that on (and the many messages they got on the socials). I hope they along with other festivals continue to carry this on and support non-binary and female musicians a lot more.

My favourite set's of the weekend were from Enter Shikari, Turnstile and Touché Amoré and my favourite discovery's were Nova Twins and Dream Wife.

Here's a couple of photos too just to take up even more of the page ;-)
