  2. Love how albums can take you back to a specific time or place in your life.

I feel like I remember Snocap. Is that the digital music store that used to be embedded on artists' MySpace pages? I can't tell you how often I wish I could recall other things as well as I recall random music knowledge haha

"Sunshine" might be my favorite on the album. There are a lot of contenders though!

So true. With that being said, I will always think of @anonimito when I hear Tonic going forward.

For sure! It's one of the things I love most about music.

    Yes! That sounds right! Lol!

If I force myself to decide, it's "Sunshine." But I have such a hard time choosing favorites with VH. :-)

For my first review I was given Hawthorne Heights – Bad Frequencies by @Bad Frequencies

Hawthorne Heights are a rock band that have been active since around 2001, which is fitting because Ohio Is For Lovers was out a few years later and, disclaimer, was the only song I’d heard before this album (that song fucking ruled and listening to it again brought me right back). Bad Frequencies was released on April 27th 2018 with single Pink Hearts streaming on March 1st 2018.

You might know JT Woodruff from solo outings and not even recognise that sheer, raw vocal that goes through the album but this brought me back to the hard rock roots that I was brought up on. This album is the anthem-rock mixed with catchy hooks that I didn’t know HH had.

The record starts with In Gloom with Woodruff’s powerful vocals singing “I just want to spend a year at home” over some energetic guitar work which continues through to Pink Hearts. Coincidentally my favourite song from the record is Bad Frequencies which starts with the slow picking of notes and ends up smacking you over the face with raw, gritty vocals with “I’ve got some bad frequencies buried in my skull.”

Penultimate album closer Straight Down The Line was the song that brought me back to “old” HH with screams marrying the lead vocals beautifully going straight into album closer Pills not giving any breathing space when it comes to leaving your ears unchecked. The first lyric “I keep thinking wow” sums up what I was thinking throughout this album.

For my first Hawthorne Heights album in years I was glad that this was given. It was the rock album that I’d needed to hear from them to turn me into a fan and I’ll need to find the time to catch up with the albums I missed. There were no points to the album that I found it difficult to get through or disliked. The screams and vocal work complimented each other very well and the guitar work was so impressive.

Thanks for the recommendation and opportunity @Bad Frequencies . This was a solid album, you’ve got crackin’ taste!

For my second album I was given If There Is Light, It Will Find You by Senses Fail by @Bad Frequencies Released on February 16th 2018, this album is noise-driven rock that actually hit me harder than I expected it to.

There were lyrics on this album that had me thinking “you know, that’s pretty close to how I feel”. Album opener Double Cross doesn’t give you the opportunity to sit and take it easy. Buddy Nielsen’s vocals are gritty. They are passionate; they can be soft yet pack a punch at the same time. Double Cross sets the tone for the album as a musical masterpiece.

The album flows perfectly throughout and if this was released back in 2005 then I’d have been jumping around my bedroom doing air guitar (might have done it once anyway). “I’m not giving up today” from New Jersey Makes, The World Takes sums up some personal feelings that I’ve been going through recently and became my anthem for the past week.

Shaking Hands begins the end of the album with some honest guitar work. Nielsen caresses the lyrics “If all the world is just a stage then you must be the blood that’s in my veins” over a punk rock ballad with so much emotion that you do not want the album closer to happen so quickly.

Title song If There Is Light, It Will Find You is the perfect album closer. Whilst the rest of the album takes you on a wild ride through Nielsen’s takes on personal events, this song is the optimism within the negatives. Title lyrics resonate through masterful guitar driven notes and when the ending comes it just makes you happy that you have the album on repeat automatically because it’s a journey you want to take yourself on again.

Sorry, @Bad Frequencies , this was my favourite of the 2 for more personal reasons but what a way to start. I’ll definitely be revisiting this and this is AOTY for me so far.

CMCS has always been an area on chorus where there has been little to no drama or public shaming. Let’s not start that now, I would like to keep it that way.

There was a disagreement and some weight thrown around, it has been talked about and handled in private. Let’s not poke the bear.
