I can see that. There are some good songs on it like Ripper, Bird and Worm and Paralyzed so the album isn't a total wash.
Bird And The Worm is the only one from that album I didn’t block from my mind. Music is subjective though, of course.
The Ripper, Pretty Handsome Awkward, Earthquake, Hospital and Paralyzed were all good in my opinion. The second half of the album is pretty terrible though.
My fiancée once had The Used playing on random during a car ride. She turned it off after hearing the ending of that song for the first time
I’ll be making next week’s pairings today (and posting my reviews from last week tonight, sorry @Mary V and @Micool1 ) @Micool1 are you wanting off the bench?
PHA, Earthquake and Hospital aren't bad songs, but nothing I actively go back to. Over all it was just a huge drop in quality after the first two and Artwork should have been the follow up
Nah that's because I'm writing a review at the same time and it put the album cover in my post so I reposted.
Also hope you’re all having a good week, I’ve not been on here a huge amount the last few days. I’m currently cycling round a big forest, with the odd pub stoppage on route of course Kev please can you add me back in for the next round, I’ll be back home by Sunday.
Next up on my list is @Davjs recommendation from a band who is very well known around here. Underoath - Erase Me. For me, Underoath had always been "that screamy band that did Reinventing Your Exit." Even then, I only knew that song because my brother bought it on Rock Band 10 years ago. I was much more familiar with Aaron Gillespie's band The Almost. That was until this day. Like the title of the opening track says, it has to start somewhere. I will say from the start that there isn't a bad song on this album. There are a couple tracks I thought I didn't like at first, but ended up liking even though they are not my favourites. On My Teeth is a little too much on the screaming side for me, but the instrumentation is great, especially Aaron's drumwork. I'm also not a fan of the electronic vibe in No Frame, but the ending saved the song for me. That's the end of my complaints for this album. I had already seen some reviews of this album around here and knew that this release was poppier than their older material, so I think I had a better chance of liking this one. And I was not disappointed. Songs like Rapture and Wake Me feature more clean vocals and have really catchy choruses, while other songs like It Has to Start Somewhere have more screams in them, but still keep a catchy side. One of my favorites is Ihateit, which happens to be the song from which the album got its name: "God, erase me. I don't deserve the life you give." I Gave Up closes the album perfectly, starting with some soft vocals over piano and finishing off with an explosive ending. I loved the album and I think they are very talented musicians. I enjoyed Aaron's drumwork a lot and I think his and Spencer's voice compliment each other very well. It makes me want to check out their other stuff even though I know it will be less poppy. Favorite tracks: Wake Me, Bloodlust, Ihateit, I Gave Up 9/10
I agree it's a super solid album with no bad tracks. Wake Up is a song that people rage against in the UO threads, but it's a highlight for me as well On My Teeth and In Motion are my two favorites though.
I did a day one review and I love your review as well. I love the industrial vibe on the whole album. I feel like I should add this as this is some of the backlash they are receiving from this album which is very sad:
Interesting. I only know Reinventing Your Exit from these guys, and everything else just hasn't really grabbed me. This sounds like it could be a return to that sound which would be more inviting to me.
