That record was a huge disappointment minus a few songs. Huge step down musically and lyrically

Until this record it was the only full record I had heard from them and yeah that one is below average/a subpar effort overall for sure.

The singer from AFS is married to the gorgeous Katrina Bowden. I wonder how they met. Looks like they are both from New Jersey so maybe at an AFS show back in the day

Ben released a really good solo EP several years ago. Man I miss his voice.

  5. Nice review. I love this album, but it's hard to determine how much of that is nostalgia.

I'v tried to listen to that Armor For Sleep record several times, and it's okay I guess, but it seems very middle of the road. The concept is by far the most interesting thing about it and it doesn't have many hooks or memorable moments for me.

    Nice review @Colin Your Enthusiasm

  9. @Bad Frequencies gave me Hawthorne Heights - Bad Frequencies and Taking Back Sunday - Happiness Is...

    Hawthorne Heights - Bad Frequencies
It's fair to say that this album wasn't really my thing. I found the lyrics a bit too melodramatic - this isn't a bad thing but I couldn't connect to the music like I wanted to. When lyrics are intense or sad, the instrumentation should match. The guitars are too bright and didn't work alongside the lyric matter. Not much really stuck out to me, the instrumentation is definitely fun at times but ultimately, this didn't click for me.

Taking Back Sunday - Happiness Is...
I kinda wish I heard this album before I heard Tidal Wave. When I first listened to this album, I couldn't help comparing it to Tidal Wave. I missed the aggression and energy that opened that album, and the rawer edge Tidal Wave has. Adam Lazarra's vocals are good and passionate, and I believed him with every word he sang. Like Bad Frequencies, the instrumentation is fun and I found it memorable! Taking Back Sunday reined back the "punk" and worked rock and Americana elements into their sound seamlessly. I quite enjoyed the blend of genres! I didn't connect to this emotionally but I do need to listen more

I'm sorry if I've come across as harsh. I don't really enjoy pop-punk/bands in this vein very much but I'm always willing to give anything an honest shot

A few weeks ago, @Nate_Johnson recommended me War on Women - Capture the Flag.

I had never heard of this band so I didn't know what to expect. It is a very politically charged album. There are some tracks that were straight up too agressive for my own taste (Childbirth, The Violence of Bureaucracy, YDTMHTL) while others were a bit under my limit of aggressivity tolerance which made them more enjoyable to me (Silence is the Gift, Capture the Flag, Pleasure and the Beast). I'm just not that high on straight up Punk music. There were some catchy moments though.

Likd I said, the lyrics are very political, which is not a bad thing per say. With all the terrible things happening in the world lately, it's great when people do something to denounce and try to bring some change. Congrats to all those artists who have the guts to stand up against the people in power. On the other hand, I have more difficulty connecting with this kind of lyrics, unfortunately.

Overall, the album was enjoyable, but I'm not sure if I will go back to it except maybe for some tracks.

    7/10
