Thanks! I liked your write-up! I agree, it’s not the easiest album to get into and you kind of need to be in a certain mood for it, but overall I do enjoy it and it’s pretty relevant in today’s political and cultural landscape.
Last week @teebs41 gave me Armor for Sleep - What to Do When You Are Dead This will be pretty brief. It's not that I didn't like it, I thought it was decent although I will say even though it's only 45 minutes it did start to drag on in the second half of the record and felt a little long to me for its length. With that being said for an emo-pop/mid 2000's alternative rock/pop punk scene release it's pretty solid. The main draw imo is that it's a concept album. It's about a guy who drives his car off a bridge into the water, after breaking up with a girl he still loves. The rest of the album is his ghost/spirit wandering the earth aka stalking/haunting this poor girl. Like I said the guy still loves her but now that he's killed himself the damage is done and he will never be with her again. The record is him reflecting on that but also more broader/universal themes are expressed which I appreciated. So the concept did give the lyrics a bit more meaning/depth but like Trainwreck by Boys Night Out another super high concept album I found the concept to almost overshadow the music and be a bit distracting and I couldn't really connect with it as much as I was hoping I would. But thanks for the rec @teebs41 and I will say that the artwork is absolutely gorgeous and I'm a sucker for great artwork so I'm sure that certainly helps make this scene release more iconic/memorable for those who loved it back in the day and still do now.
For the next session I'm paired up with the incomparable @Larry David and he gave me MxPx - Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo and I gave him Barcelona - Absolutes.
Delete these sentences! That record is perfect, and I won't stand for the record blasphemy or that era of music blasphemy.
That's how you thank me for using the word incomparable to describe you. I even had to google first to make sure it made sense to use it. in·com·pa·ra·ble ˌinˈkämp(ə)rəb(ə)l/ adjective adjective: incomparable 1. without an equal in quality or extent; matchless. I've never been a big Armor for Sleep fan so I'm sure that has something to do with it. I will say that it was miles better than Smile for Them which I thought was not very good at all.
