Honestly if you are a Used fan, I'd give it a listen. It's not really memorable, but I'd still put it up above Imaginary Enemy, so it's not their worst album. .......just their 2nd worst
I’d sooner rather listen to anything besides those two tbh. They’re both bad stuff, just one is objectively slightly less bad.
Eh, I actually like Imaginary Enemy. There are some bad tracks, but I think it's not as horrible as everyone says. The Canyon has maybe 3 songs I remember liking.
Alright, @cshadows2887 gave me Bruce Springsteen's 1975 classic "Born to Run" Somehow as a kid going through my parents cd collection, Springsteen always got overlooked and I instead fell into Metallica, Def Leppard, Styx, REO, Rush, ect. I always knew he was held as one of the greats, but for some reason or another I never sought it out or was exposed to him in a big way. I’m sure I had heard some of his songs here or there, but Born in the USA was the only song I knew for a fact was him, and it’s that song that never had me seek him out, esp when I could listen to instead Guns and Roses \m/ ….anyway for the album, it’s always kind of scary hearing something with this much hype so long after release. Does it hold up? I was pleasantly surprised. His voice wasn’t super stand out to me, but Springsteen’s songs have so much going on in them, it doesn’t hinder him as a song writer for me and they serviced the music just fine. Hearing so much piano, stings and horns was a nice surprise that I didn’t expect. I always kind of thought his songs would be mostly stripped down acoustic and boy, was I wrong. Normally albums open up with a heavy hitter, so I didn’t expect the first song Thunder Road to start out with piano and harmonica. It set the pace nicely for the album and drew me in. When the title track Born to Run came on, I immediately recognized it and was stunned I never knew it was him. I can see why this was the lead single, everything about it is great. The last track Jungleland was a 9 minute long epic for me. Starting with some beautiful strings and piano, a 3 minute incredible horn jam (think its sax, but I don’t know) in the middle only to slow down again to end with soft spoken vocals with piano and organ ringing out. This will definitely be added to my rotation. On my 4 listen throughs before this write up, I always found something new as so much is going on in these songs. Perfect to listen to at work, or car rides since my wife is not a fan of metal. Highlights: Born to Run, Jungleland, Backstreets, Tenth Ave Freeze-out Sorry if my write up seemed like ramblings, I am a terrible writer and always impressed when people do good reviews on here.
You did just fine man! Glad you enjoyed it. It is a sax, too. If you'd believe it, despite the fact that it's one of the most lyrical, beautiful solos ever, it's actually made up of Springsteen cutting together multiple different takes or Clarence Clemons, sliding the faders in and out.
Oh that's cool, I would love a documentary on the making of this album in the studio. It sounds like they had a blast with all the little things going on in each song.
@highfidelity203 gave me Diva by Annie Lennox For those of you who are unfamiliar Annie is probably best known as the lead singer of the Eurythmics of Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) fame, but is also an accomplished solo artist I was familiar with Why and Walking On Broken Glass before hearing this this definitely felt different from her work with the Eurythmics but still familiar, there were times I was like "oh that's where Florence Welch got her vibe from", overall I enjoyed it other standout tracks- Legend In My Living Room, Money Can't Buy It,Primitive
Idk when exactly y’all do pairings but consider this a casual reminder to bench me cause I need to catch up with reviews and I never messaged my partner last week
