  1. Blink-182 stole Matt Skiba for their most recent album/tours. Word on the street though is that Alkaline Trio will be doing some new stuff soon.

Ahhhhh, I knew I had heard the name Matt Skiba before and I was just thinking it was just from him being in A3, but the Blink association makes sense now.

I thought I read something about Travis playing drums with A3 at some point... or am I confusing this too?

It's all good. Things have just been super busy lately so it's been hard to even keep up with new releases each week

Yes, I am doing the review the same day it was given to me! I am determined to catch up on all the recommendations that were given to me.

    @broken22 had me review:

Calabrese: Dayglo Necros (2012) Spookshow Records

I had never heard of this band but judging from the name of the record and the album cover depicting a zombie vampire being impaled with a wooden stake, I had some idea what I was getting myself into. Boy is this album fun! The best way to describe this band is if you put The Misfits, AFI and My Chemical Romance in blender. They even incorporate some elements of White/Rob Zombie with the inclusion of horror move clips peppered throughout the album.

Calabrese are a 3 piece based out of Phoenix, Arizona and they are all brothers. Their band name comes from the last name of all three brothers. Bobby Calabrese, the leader singer/guitarist even has a vocal style reminiscent of Glenn Danzig and Davey Havok.

It is sad that I had never heard of this band or this album because I really would have been into it at the time it was released. I think the reason I had never heard of them was that their aforementioned peers were overshadowing them. They didn't even stand a chance at the time of their inception in 2003. My Chemical Romance was releasing Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge and signed to a major label while AFI was also signing to a major label and releasing Sing the Sorrow.

These three brothers are extremely talented and play just as well as their peers. The song titles and lyrics are just what you would expect from this style of music and is just plain fun. With song titles like The Dead Don't Rise, The Man Who Lived Twice and Damned to the Night you know exactly what you are getting into.

I listened to this album three times while packing up for my big move to North Carolina and at 38 minutes, it goes by in a flash. My only complaint that by the end it can get a little repetitive and the production is a little lacking and it is hard to decipher the vocals at times. Minor complaints!

If you are a fan of all these above bands and are looking for something to hit that same punk/horror nerve center in your brain then this is right up your alley.

    9/10

RIYL: AFI, The Misfits, My Chemical Romance

Favorite tracks: They are all great!

Hey everyone! I’m back with pockets full of reviews I owe to some wonderful guys!

    This one is for @JediMasterKevo182

Matchbook Romance — Stories and Alibis

Even though I am a big fan of this type of music somehow I never had the chance to check this band even though I heard a lot of great things about them. And now I know why. They had everything scene kids and I loved about mall emo/post-hardcore. It has the raw energy with cool guitar riffs and fast-paced drums and the singer’s voice is great. I’m not sure I can choose any standout songs because every song has something special for your ears. This record brings you back to good old days when MTV2 was a thing (well I can only imagine me watching MTV2 here in Russia but nevertheless) and when we were young and hopeless kids with our jet black hair.

And from now on I promise not to call this band Matchbox Romance as I did before.

    -------------

Next one is for @Patterns in Traffic

    Vinyl Theatre - Origami

I really liked previous albums by Vinyl Theatre “Electrogram” and “Gold EP” but their latest album haven’t reach my ears until now. Just like on those records band delivers great guitar and synth driven type of pop-rock with good catchy hooks. Nothing stands out but every song will make you tap your toes in rhythm. If I had to describe this band in one line I would say something like “Twenty One Pilots playing Walk the Moon songs” because it has WTM radio-appeal but singer’s voice reminds me of Tyler Joseph from TOP a lot. Oh, and this album is only 9 songs long so your toes won’t be tired of tapping.

    ---------------
And finally some reviews for @iCarly Rae Jepsen

    Fleetwood Mac – Rumours

I only heard big hits before but not the full album. And somehow it doesn’t sound like “2-3 all-time hits plus some other songs” but it is perfectly combined album where every song has something to offer. The songwriting and musicianship of the band is impressive to say the least and after listening I have no doubts that Rumors deserve it’s spot as one of the greatest albums ever made. And the production of this album is also great and even after more than 30 years since it’s release it sounds fresh and modern (maybe that’s because I listened to remastered version but I’m not sure).

Aside from the hits my new favorite FM song is Oh Daddy. And somehow I never knew that Don’t Stop is their song. I’m stupid.

Carly Rae Jepsen – Emotion: Side B

Oh Carly Rae. The most underrated popstar of 21 century. If you think that she’s just that “Call You Maybe”-girl then you are totally wrong and probably don’t deserve to hear any music in your life at all . The fact that Emotion is not 10x platinum is probably biggest mystery that will make future historians scratch their heads. This EP just proves it because if your record has b-sides this good than you are doing something right. Another 8 songs where 80s come alive to make you dance around your room like your mother did back then. Body Language and Fever are my personal favorites.

80’s era Madonna would kill for songs like these.
