This week, Rochester's finest were paired up. The first of 2 records that @js977 recommended to me was Gang Of Youths- Go Farther In Lightness This record absolutely floored me. The entire time I was listening to the record, I was wishing I would've heard it last year. This easily would've made my top 10 AOTY last year, possibly even cracked my top 5. The record begins with an almost Springsteen-esque opener "Fear and Trembling" It's an upbeat, fun, heartfelt track that really sets the tone for the entire record. The record has influences ranging anywhere from Springsteen to Brian Fallon/Gaslight Anthem to The War On Drugs. The songwriting was fantastic, and the delivery from the singer was spot on. The album was chocked full of INTENSE interludes that transitioned flawlessly into the next song( See "Le Symbolique" into "Let Me Down Easy") I was a little weary at first when I saw the length of time not only the album, but a majority of songs were. Depending on whether I enjoyed it or not it could be a non-factor, or it could've made it a lengthy listen. However, some of the longer songs ended up being my favorites, and even after 77 minutes, I wanted more music from them! My only complaint with the record was sometimes there was an excessive amount of swearing, and sometimes the lyrics were lacking. ("Sometimes life sucks, everything is lame. Not everything's as easy as making lemonade) It was easy to overlook and continue to enjoy the record though based on the majority of it being top tier songwriting. Thanks for the rec @js977 Favorite Songs: Fear and Trembling, Achilles Come Down, Persevere
The second record that I was assigned by @js977 was Departures- When Losing Everything Is Everything You Wanted This was a band that I had heard the name, but had never heard a song by them, or known what bands they were compared to. After my initial listen, I would say early Touche Amore is probably the best band to compare them to, and that's one hell of a compliment. The band has emotional music that carries it's own tune with hardcore vocals over it. I love bands like this where the vocals and music appear to be going in different directions, yet they stay together and work at the same time. When the first track started, it was an instrumental with some post-rock influence, so I wasn't sure if it was an instrumental band. I was pleasantly surprised when the hardcore vocals punched in, during the second track and were relentless throughout the 33 minute record. Thanks for the rec @js977 Favorite songs: Swallowed Up, Sunday, Midnight Lights, Over The Edge
Chorus Music Club Society Release Day Review Resulting from a dare by @JediMasterKevo182 I am bringing you a review of the new Three Days Grace album Outsider, jokingly referred to by Kevo this morning as a "release day bashing". So here we go, buckle your seatbelts this is going to be a real ride! Three Days Grace- Outsider March 9, 2018 RCA Records Let me kick off this review a little differently and ask you all a few questions. Do you enjoy engaging rock music? Passionate, urgent vocals that demand your attention? An album that doesn’t feel like an album but an experience? If you answered yes to any OR all of these questions, this album is NOT for you. Three Days Grace return with their sixth studio album Outsider, follow-up to 2015’s Human, second with My Darkest Day vocalist Matt Walst brother of bassist Brad Walst AND by far their most uninspired and forgettable output to date. I remember first hearing their debut single “I Hate Everything About You” back in 2003, ex-vocalist Adam Gontier gripped me immediately back then with his passionate, fierce and urgent vocals that didn’t request my attention they demanded it. Those days are gone in Three Days Grace unfortunately as Matt just doesn’t have that power. Lead single “The Mountain” and one of only 2 decent songs on this album completely misses the mark that lead singles like “I Hate Everything About You”, “Animal I Have Become” or “Break” hit. The Mountain is fairly enjoyable for what it is, a song catered to radio rock, it has a decent chorus and good instrumentation. The only other song I feel any enjoyment for is “Infa-Red” which is not without its flaws, it starts with a 33-second instrumental build-up that feels unnecessary. However, this is the best vocal performance from this current vocalist between their two albums, and the closest we will probably ever see to the Gontier days. What can I say about the rest of the record you ask? I just feel like it was written purely with the intention or hope that they could catch on at rock radio. There is no passion, fire, urgency or anything very memorable about them. They make a relatively short 39-minute, 12 track record feels like 2 hours have passed and leaves you with no desire to come back for more. This albums greatest accomplish was making me want the Adam Gontier fronted Saint Asonia second album due this year even more. Conclusion: I don’t recommend this album and will personally most likely never return to it. OK Songs: The Mountain, Infa-Red Rating: 2/10 Thanks for reading back to listening to the fantastic, highly recommended Between The Buried And Me-Automata I.
I know, I'm sitting out the next round to blast through my backlog. Was feeling fairly uninspired with writing lately. My apologies.

I feel like it was never a super sustainable concept tbh. It was always gonna dwindle down to a smaller group of core members cause it's difficult for some people to dedicate the time weekly for the unforeseeable future. I like it cause it forces me out of music ruts. Even tho I go right back in usually after I listen to the recs lol
I was just thinking of an album that I’d recommend to @iCarly Rae Jepsen or @Kiana if I was paired with them! Since I’m not...I think you guys would enjoy the Superorganism album
