Nice! I wouldn't say they're big (I don't think I've ever come across anyone else who has heard of them), I just happened to see one of their singles highlighted on a music website a few years ago and checked the album out on a whim. I think it's a really impressive debut, they have a great sound.
I just got VIP to Hawthorne Heights, I apologize to anyone I’m partnered with leading up to that show because you’ll probably get one of their albums
@theagentcoma and I teamed up this past week and the first of their two recommendations is: Chemicaust: Unleashed Upon This World (2018) Chemicaust are a thrash metal band out of Dallas, Texas. Throughout the 8 songs, well 8 songs and a cover, they pound you with riffs and solos that their peers would be proud of. The best way to describe them is Slayer with 2000's era metallic hardcore vocals. The song Human Sacrifice even has a nice Reign in Blood breakdown thrown in. The band is extremely talented I am going to keep an eye out for their future efforts and I am truly surprised they are not signed because the production on the album is amazing for a DIY project. The highlight of the album comes from the song Genocide. This is the only time they give you a short break from their pummeling riffs and vocals. It also has an INSANE solo around the 3 minute mark and has an impressive breakdown outro accompanied by another solo and is a great way to close out the album. The Exodus cover of A Lesson in Violence following Genocide is done very well and is something I am sure they would be impressed by. My only real criticism with the album is the vocals. There is little variety and this style of music doesn't necessarily require such razor sharp vocals. Although, surprisingly you can understand every word he is saying. It is minor criticism but his vocals can wear on you after a few listens with the album. It is sad the album is not on Apple Music but I found it on Bandcamp and purchased the digital version of the album after my second listen. This is a solid release and I look forward to hearing more from them! Favorite Songs: Human Sacrifice The Absurd Beautiful Lie Genocide RIYL: Slayer, Thrash Metal 8/10
My first recommendation from @JediMasterKevo182 this week was Startset- Transmissions. I accidentally reviewed their second album last night. I love Kevo to death, so I listened to their first to fulfill my assignment. While this record was far from perfect, this record was much more enjoyable than Vessels. I liked how the instruments came through more on this record and weren't drowned out by the vocals on most of the songs. The first song "Down With The Fallen" had a lot more of what I wanted to hear on Vessels where it sounded a lot more raw and not overproduced. One of my complaints still stands on this record though where the songs are too long. For example, the track Anti-Gravity technically ends at 3:46, but there's an interlude that takes the track length to 6:09. I feel like if they cleaned the interludes up, even if they just shortened them their records would be much more enjoyable to me. The only track I would instantly skip if I listen again is, "My Demons" It sounded like a Three Days Grace song. The singers vocals are the most improved(even though this is their first record) between the two records. The auto-tune is minimal, and his singer is a lot less radio rock on this record. I'll re-visit this record from time to time, and hope they choose to go more in this direction for their next record. Favorite songs: "Down With The Fallen" "Halo" "It Has Begun"
Glad you liked this one a bit better! The songs you listed as well as Carnivore and Telescope are huge songs in their catalog for me
Sorry for doing this but I have to back out this week I just got hit with a bombshell on my life and won't be able to participate as I deal with it, and I unfortunately won't be doing my write ups from last week. Hopefully after this week I can participate again but I may need another week or two off
I’m afraid I can’t this week. Already doing a couple albums with @skurt and I’m dealing with sick kids here :/
So I got hella behind on writting reviews and still owe them to @Craig Manning @bradsonemanband @JRGComedy @Micool1 @Colin Your Enthusiasm All these will be written and posted sometime this evening, and then i can move forward to listen to this weeks recs from @bachna84 Sorry again for these review delays, between a lot of personal stuff and writer's block I feel behind.
