I wouldn’t classify it as progressive rock and it’s not a bad thing to call something Math Rock. Complicated rock?! You are right, TMP isn’t a math rock band but do have similarities.

 

Not calling them a math-rock band. Just noting their style of noodling (for lack of a better descriptor) is definitely influenced by that genre and style of guitar playing. I almost put math rock lite in my post, but I felt that might come off as condescending.

more just like it seems like a kind of shoehorning and box-fitting title to apply to an artist. oh you're just an artist that switches time signatures a lot, so that's what we define you by. so many musical acts deemed 'math rock' have somewhere in an interview a quote about not liking being deemed 'math rock.'

i mean, music by definition is almost inherently emotional, so that emo thing's a whole other conversation, but i see what you're saying. i realize the second it's released, it's not fully up to you how the product gets viewed anymore, but yeah, idk, imagine if you wrote a novel that you thought had a great plot but you used a lot of adverbs and the internet just called you 'adverb guy' or something. might get on your nerves.
