My last rec I gave was like a 25 yr old spanish album with like 20 songs so... probably lol! I always listen to the same albums over and over so recing things gets difficult tbh!!!
I appreciated the rec you gave me! The first album you suggested to me (but I already heard) would make a great future suggestion too
This week @Kennedy gave me ‘The Glow Part 2’ By The Microphones And in return I gave him ‘I, No Longer’ by Pentimento
@BTDandFeelingThis were partnered up AGAIN and he gave me: Toy Cars: Paint Brain (2018) Self Released I have said this before with another album review but New Jersey has a never ending supply of great music. You have your "heavyweights" Bruce Springsteen & Bon Jovi, beloved Americana/punk crossover act The Gaslight Anthem, post-hardcore veterans Thursday and now up and coming act Toy Cars. Toy Cars is four piece act consisting of vocalist/guitarist Matt Debenedetti, Mike Linardi on drums, Matt Caponegro on guitar and Chris Beninato on bass. Their sound can best be compared to that of The Gaslight Anthem/Kings of Leon mixed with some shoegaze and it works surprisingly really well. Paint Brain is their debut full length and is self produced. I'll be honest and say that the opening song and title track didn't exactly grab me but that feeling vanished when the second track, Cold started. It instantly pulled me with it's on "Sex on Fire" vibes. The run from Cold through Erie (which features PRIM vocalist Jenna Murphy) is truly impressive. Throughout these 8 tracks they weave in an out of the aforementioned styles. Standout tracks for me included Cobwebs, which reminds me of fellow crossover act Trophy Eyes with screamed vocals but done tastefully and Leaving a/B, a track I instantly fell in love with on my first listen and is a straight up Americana rock song. There are only a couple of songs on the album that didn't quite click for me, those being the aforementioned title track and last songs Tread and Sarah 1908. I am not sure why they didn't quite resonate with me. The vocals seemed a bit "off" for me on these and maybe it was just a production issue? Style wise they don't stray too far away from the rest of the album with Tread being a faster/punk oriented tune and Sarah 1908 a stripped down acoustic number. Overall, this is a great debut full length and I am hoping to catch the band at some point here in New Jersey. 8/10 Favorite tracks: Cold Cobwebs Leaving a/B RIYL: Kings of Leon, The Gaslight Anthem, Trophy Eyes @MikeTC
