the last Kanye album is probably the most accessible rap album in a long time, plus all the songs go by in mere minutes so you get a good taste for a lot of stuff.
Yeezus changed my perspective on rap when it came out, I must've been 15 or 16? It was so angry and raw and very political and it was basically the same thing I heard when I was 14 and had Bikini Kill change my life when I heard overtly feminist lyrics for the first time
Kanye is my favorite artist and the one that got me into rap. If you’re into melodic stuff, Drake’s Take Care is amazing. Kendrick obviously has multiple classics. Vince Staples is doing exciting things and Big Fish Theory is a really forward thinking album. Tyler, The Creator’s new album has an almost jazzy feel to it. Outkast are perfect.
I don't care for Drake but other than that this is a spot on summary for my tastes irt mainstream rap
I hate reccing a white artist but the Beastie Boys- Licensed To Ill would probably appeal to fans of pop punk, Run DMC-Raising Hell is also pretty safe
Fun fact: the Beastie Boys used to be punk/hardcore and walked in a lot of the same circles that bands like Minor Threat, etc. did.
well it's a The xx song only sung by Drake and Rihanna, so... Crew Love is my favorite song on the album. and the part where Rick Ross (?) goes "the only n--- in a Sauna with jews!" makes me lol without fail every time.
This album baffled me the first time I heard it cause it felt like Nas split the time between him and other rappers almost 50/50 but I've grown to appreciate it
@Fuck You Aurora and I will be exchanging this week He will be listening to: Trophy Eyes-Chemical Miracle I will be listening to: T. Rex-Electric Warrior
????? I know none were listed but does he just have a larger vocal range than I thought??? If so, respect wtf
Oh we’re doing general rap recs?? Brockhampton. All day every day. I think someone rec’d them for last weeks pairing but I will take any and every chance to tell everyone how great they are, especially for those like @js977 who like poppy rap
I just spent twenty minutes writing basically an essay on why everyone should take a deeper look at rap and not write it off. Unfortunately it was mostly moronic babbling (my signature, I know) so I'll just keep it simple. The rap world is bigger and more diverse than you think. It's cliche to say this, but there really is something for everyone.
This is possible but I only ever listened to it on Spotify (unless I always let it go to the radio after the album ends which is likely lol)
I totally agree with this and I also agree with someone else’s rationalization that it only takes one album to get you hooked. I can remember the album that got me hooked on metal, hardcore, pop, country, etc but I have yet to find that one that hooks me on rap. I keep an open mind and have an extremely eclectic taste in music, ask any one I have traded albums with. (Especially you @Fuck You Aurora, lol) I want someone to show me that album that hooks me onto rap. Show me the light!
Hey @Cody hit me up so we can trade some recs, the laws of the universe prevent me from sliding into your DMs
Also make sure you're not listening to the Illmatic XX anniversary thing that has remixes of every song
