Life happens man. We are here with open arms when you get back. @Wall Of Arms , you’ll be taking his partner @Zac Djamoos
@Zac Djamoos This is gonna be fun, haha. Edit: Send me a DM though man, I can't view your profile to message you.
Someone's getting my Noah Gundersen rec again because my partner from that week never posted their obvious praise for said album. Not gonna tag you, you know who you are...
catching up on @mattfreaksmeout's recs stef chura - messes seeing allison crutchfield and snail mail in the related artists section of stef chura's spotify page i was very excited to check this album out. it starts off with two of the stronger tracks on the album 'slow motion' and 'you', but unfortunately after that i feel like the album begins to stagnate. not that the songs that follow are necessarily "bad" per se, but they're definitely fairly one-note. while listening i couldn't help but wish she would have thrown in a few curve balls just to keep the listener on their toes. 'speeding ticket' was a great way to end the album, and probably my favourite track on here i feel like this has been kind of a negative review for an album that i actually did enjoy, but found a little bit too repetitive hahah. sorry! partner - in search of lost time you know how people always say "don't judge a book by it's cover"? well, i feel like i knew exactly what i was getting myself in for with this album cover and i couldn't have been more right, hahah. i love this so much! it's just a straight up fun power pop record with tons of 90s worship. the hooks are huge from the get go; "everybody knows you're higgghhhhh", "this feeellls like hoooomee, i'm in my comfort zoonee", "i'll be your ambassador to ecstasyyy". this whole record just makes me want to start dancing haha. 'play the field' should have been huge!! i think the only thing i didn't like about this was the skits, but yeah, other than that this was an extremely enjoyable record so thanks for recommending it!
Alright now for my Recs From @Contender I Love Your Lifestyle-We Go Way Back I liked this one from the moment I hit play. I just have to say that from the get go. The opening track of ‘Nice Jacket. Not’ just explodes into action from the moment you start, no build up nothing. Sometimes that can be a bad thing, but this band makes it work. Being from the alternative/indie genre, I went into this band blind with no clue on how they would sound. So when the album started and I was treated to these fast paced, poppy guitar and bass lines along with with a very indie sounding vocal style that includes both screamed and sung vocals, i was intrigued and caught off guard in the best way possible. Each song contains its own flavor that you could pick and choose which ones to listen to, and yet it plays together well as an entire album of that is how you prefer your albums. ‘Oh, Twisted Me’ is a perfect example of this style, containing a melodic guitar in the back ground, a catchy thumping drum line, and lyrics that are backed up by shouted backing vocals. Sort of like old senses Fail if they collided with a punk rock band, if that makes any sense. Another favorite, and possibly my number one, was ‘Brain Freeze’. The lyrics in this song are actually well thought out, and they are delivered in a fun and catchy manner that makes you want to sing along even if it’s the first time you’ve heard the album. I listened to this album four times over the span of this session, and it’s 14 song run goes fast but is super enjoyable. Every song has a moment where you can pin point the skills of each member of the band, and it doesn’t ever hinder the others while doing so. I saw a second album by these guys on Apple Music and I plan to check it out. 8/10 Movements- Feel Something This has to be one of the best intro songs to an album I have heard in these Recs since the club stared. The track ‘Full Circle’ is an awesome way to kick off your album, with powerful lyrics and a crooning guitar line that runs through out the song. I must also note the vocal delivery on this song is top notch. This is a huge strength that Movements keeps up through the entire album. Reminding me of Moose Blood Through it’s 11 Song Run, The 43 minutes you devote to this album are well spent. The main strengths of each of these songs are the guitar and vocals I would say, as those were the points I noticed the most in each song. ‘Colorblind’ was a treat of a song in every listen I gave this album, and somehow I felt like I had heard it before although I am pretty sure I hadn’t. The lyrics of that song though, man are they good. They’re relatable and well thought out, something you want to just bob your head along with and will most definitely be caught in your head well after you are done listening, especially the chorus. And that’s the same for most of the album actually, with powerfully sung and yelled yet catchy lyrics. ‘Deep Red’ and ‘Under The Gun’ are other stand out tracks of this album, and i need to point out that they will be in your head. The passion in the vocals, especially in Under The Gun, just beg for repeat listens and it’s something that I could not ignore. To quote @skurt ’So good.’ 9/10 Good Recs @Contender but I expect nothing less from a fellow Ohioan.
Now Up is @SaveTheEarth time! Lo Tom- Lo Tom My partners this week really went all out. This was an unexpected album. Made up of members of bands I had heard of, yet I had never heard of Lo Tom. Right out of the gate, the album starts strong with the song ‘Covered Wagon’. Honestly that may even be my favorite on the album, which is not to say that the rest of the album didn’t deliver. If I had to pick a favorite component of this album it would be the vocals. Something about his deep yet crooning voice fits so well with the musical tone that this band lays out on this self titled album. With powerful lyrics on songs like ‘Overboard’, his voice works well with these tones that the other members of the band are putting out. If there was one track on this smooth rock album that gave the opening track a run for its money as my favorite, I would have to say its ‘Another Mistake’. Those lyrics, that vocal tone and the rhythm of the singing is just great, and that banging drum and guitar behind it just makes this song a banger for this album. At only 8 tracks, this album was sadly over before I wanted it to be over, only spanning 29 minutes. I am unsure if I would return to the album as a whole, but those songs I listed are now going on my usual playlist. 7/10 Swervedriver- I Wasn’t Born To Lose You This album was a band I had not heard mentioned in a long time, their Hey day being back in the 90s. Somehow I missed this 2015 release. It definitley has influences of their older sound, but also has a modern touch with this newer release. Similar bands like My Bloody Valentine get More recognition, however I believe that Swervedriver has a leg up on them. Songs like ‘For A Day Like Tomorrow’ and ‘Setting Sun’ have plenty to show of the strengths from this band, and the main strength they have is their guitar work. The riffs and lines in these songs work well with these songs, and a lot of the time they outright outshine the actual songs. I liked this album quite a bit, but at the same time in my multiple listens of this one I had trouble attaching to them. An odd thing to say, I know. If I had to pick a favorite song off of the album, it would definitely be ‘Deep Wound’ as this is the song that shows off both the strengths of theit guitar, the drums, and the vocals the best. It’s a cool driving jam, as are many of the songs on here. However, I sadly cannot see myself throwing this on as much as I would have liked. Not to say it won’t get future play from me, because it will. But it’s just toeing the edge of ‘my style’ if that makes any sense. 6.5/10
For session 7, I’m paired with Chorus legend @Kennedy He will be listening to Author - IIFOIIC And I will be listening to The Felix Culpa - Sever Your Roots
I hate to say this, but I hope nobody ever recommends me a Rap album. I absolutely despise the genre lol.
