It’s a music club. Each 10 days you are assigned partners, you both agree on 1-3 albums to trade with eachother (ones they may like or you want to share), and they give you the same number of albums. Within the 10 days you listen, write your thoughts and basically come back anc tell everyone what you thought/stand out songs/ etc. think like a book club but with music albums. It’s a great way to be exposed to more music. More info on the original post
Welcome aboard! Next session starts The12th. Want to wait until then or do a quickie trade between then with @skurt ?
Oso Oso- The Yunahon Mixtape Super sorry to @sean_rugy for the super late posting. While working out the rec with sean he told me this has heavy vibes of The Early November. You can hear it all throughout the record and I really enjoyed that. The vocals were top notch and throughout and the instrumentation as great. It’s one of those records I am having trouble putting into words, just know I digged it!! Standout Tracks: Reindeer games, great big beaches, get there(when you’re there)
So do y’all like pm and chat with the person you’re paired up with or does all the interaction happen in the thread?
PM and chat to decide what recommendations you’ll be doing. Then when it’s hammered out post it here for everyone to see. Discussion is always welcomed though in the middle of posting the Recs/ reviewing them
Here is my slightly delayed thoughts on @bree1981 bonus round recs. Sorry for the delay bree The Penske File- Burn into the Earth These guys are a melodic pop punk band with a nice folk flavoring from Burlington, Ontario. This record had me hooked from the first note it is very up tempo, catchy and the vocal delivery is incredible. There is time where the vocalist reminds me of both the singer from The Flatliners and Dropkick Murphys. The harmonica sprinkled throughout the record adds a nice little touch and separates it from just being a regular pop punk album. Standout Tracks: Damned, Bedroom Angels, Put Your Dreams To Bed, Old Dogs Frightened Rabbits- The Midnight Organ Fight I had thought this band name was familiar and that I had heard them before so I was excited, turns out it was the wrong band. I really enjoyed this album and it was immensely better than whatever I thought it was going in, these guys are a Scottish band. This album is both very uplifting and emotionally charged it is truly an experience to listen to. I found it to be an oddly relaxing and calming album despite its subject matter. It is a very good album to read to and I highly recommend it. Standout Tracks: I Feel Better, The Twist, Keep Yourself Warm
Glad you liked them both @skurt and your favourite song on the FR record are pretty similar to mine, Keep Yourself Warm is one of my favourite songs of all time to hear live.
@bachna84 Since you’re seeing Starset in February now and this club was the reason you got into them, also being the first member to like an exposed recommendation enough to go see them live, why don’t you give us a little write up of the show after you go :)
@jorbjorb gave me sleep in’s record “settling” I had heard this bands most recent ep but I actually enjoyed this lp way more. This hit a sweet spot for me of emo/pop punk and really think it will be something I keep coming back to. This is for fans of great guitar riffs over melodic vocals. Sort of combines the third wave emo sound with the early emo sounds of bands like american football. Also I found out these guys are from cherry hill, nj, which is like 15 minutes from my house!!
So i never got any notifications from being tagged in this and forgot to check it. I am the worst music club person.
My reviews of @BTDandFeelingThis recs for the round: Jacks Mannequin – Everything In Transit I’ll start off by saying I have never listened to these guys before, but having listened to this album, I can’t believe I never did! I love the feel of the album – kinda pop punky, but where it’s different is the use of the piano to give it that something else. From the first song on the album, Holiday From Real, it kicks off with a nice short sharp piano lead verse, and into a nice big chorus, setting the tone for the whole album. The whole album is pretty interesting, incorporating other instruments, such as Trumpets/brass in sections, to give it a cool something extra, and is definitely something I will be spinning again. I will probably also dive into their other albums for good measure. Rating: 8.5/10 Fave Tracks: Holiday From Real, Dark Blue Breaking Benjamin - Phobia Sorry @BTDandFeelingThis, but I didn’t like this one quite as much, I’m afraid. Again, I had never listened to this band before, and on the first listen to the first couple of songs, I was quite enjoying them, with (to me) shades of early Linkin’ Park thrown in here and there. To be fair, I do sometimes catch myself humming Diary of Jane, however, as the album goes on, it becomes quite samey, and I lose a bit of interest tbh. The songs alone are pretty good, but there is not a great deal of diversity on the album for me. Unfortunately, this album didn’t really encourage me to listen to their other stuff, but if there are any other of their albums you think I may prefer to this one, please do let me know! Rating 6/10 Fave Tracks: Diary of Jane
Yeah I'm sorry man this is never going to happen haha, Jason already explained that only the first 3 people tagged in a post get notified, so you'll have to manually check every week. it is what it is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Can’t all be winners. I am glad you liked ETIT though, that’s a classic and one of my favorite all time releases.
Glad you enjoyed them. Starset especially has become a big band in my ranking(you’d probably dig the second album a lot more, it’s more refined and experiments a lot more). Telescope is a standout for me as well(it’s being played at my wedding reception). LSN was a gamble, I knew that going in. I am pleased at least that we share a stand out track in WSC
