I'm late for the bonus round and even later listening to this record. @Fuck You Aurora rec'd me this sweet album. Saves The Day - Stay What You Are My only prior exposure to this band was the 'At Your Funeral' video that use to play on Steven's Untitled Rock Show back in the day. I liked the song quite a bit but always assumed it was an album closer. I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be the opener. My favorite thing about this club of ours is that the recommendations I've been receiving have been filling in some crucial holes in the history of my favorite genres. I could immediately pick up that Stay What You Are was like an a lightning rod of inspiration for a lot of other big acts. My first couple of spins the record reminded me a lot of The Wonder Years. I don't actually like The Wonder Years much, I get the fervor but it never connected with me. This did it more for me. In subsequent listens I was able to pick up a lot of vibes similar to later New Found Glory as well. The most obvious and late revelation though was how much of a template this served for Say Anything. You can tell that Max's hyperventilating reverence for this band is earnest and sincere. I hope its not to sacrilegious to say that pretty much every clever and unique moment on this record was cautiously refined and repackaged with Max's intensity in his band's records. On its own though the album is a solid pop punk release. The choruses just kind of scream early 2000's house party. Everything is catchy. My favorite track on the record by far is "Nightingale", the airy intro and outro are sweet and Conley's sounds the most invested in it.
I’ll be quite busy exploring the Coachella lineup for a bit. I’ll hop back in when I’m done with that
Going forward I'm going to write reviews more formally since they're being consolidated into the google docs. I'll try to focus more on the albums themselves instead of how they relate to me personally or to other artists.
Will have my thoughts on Wolves from Rise Against from @skurt posted in the next day or so, the holidays really messed with my routine.
I got paired up with @teebs41 I'll listen to Attalus - Into the Sea @teebs41 is listening to Sleep In. - Settling
